Zayo is seeking a Long Haul Fiber Engineering Manager who will be responsible for the accurate building of new long haul logical fiber and physical route inventory, the timely and accurate design of new fiber circuits across the long haul network, and the production of accurate network inventory deliverables for new long haul dark fiber circuits.
The Long Haul Fiber Engineering Manager provides direct supervision and guidance to a group of Fiber Engineers and GIS Specialists who execute the scope across the long haul network. The Long Haul Fiber Engineering Manage has responsibility for managing the inventory of the Zayo long haul fiber network through database tracking of fiber enclosures, fiber optic cable, conduit, and building data. The role also ensures consistent high-quality fiber test deliverables are produced for Zayo's internal and external customers in accordance with Zayo specification.
Responsibilities

  • General -
    • Own the long haul fiber network with regard to fiber network inventory and long haul fiber test deliverables.
    • Set departmental objectives and report on progress and project milestones.
    • Handle and resolve customer issues that are escalated for management attention.
    • Produce and use various reports for departmental management of work objectives.
    • Organize and coordinate with internal organizations to support the timely and accurate implementation of large, complex projects.
    • Provide department management in Ops and Sales on-going reports in terms of work status, activity issues, and steps of resolution.
    • Establish and maintain effective communications and professional working relationships with customers and internal personnel.
    • Organize the team's workday efficiently to maximize productivity by utilizing proper time management techniques.
    • Comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and processes.
    • Employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity.
    • Assist in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Fiber Engineering and GIS -
    • Provide direct supervision to a group of assigned Fiber Engineers and GIS Specialists.
    • Design routes for fiber-based services including point-to-point, ring, and path diverse routing.
    • Research existing databases, files, and records for purposes of network design, optimization, and relocation of fiber facilities.
    • Estimate and provide design schematics of path, distances, and quantity of splicing work to be performed for fiber projects, relocation of existing fiber facilities, and restoration of existing traffic.
    • Ensure fiber optic database is current and accurate by inputting data regarding location of fibers and fiber enclosures into the data management system.
    • Ensure inventory of fiber circuits is accurate by inputting data into inventory management databases. Maintain and update information as changes occur.
    • Produce high quality, accurate network inventory deliverables for new fiber assignments.


Qualifications

  • 4-year College Degree in Engineering or equivalent network experience.
  • Minimum 3 (three) years' successful direct report people leadership in a network planning, engineering or deployment setting.
  • Minimum 7 (seven) years' technical work experience in the telecommunications industry with emphasis on engineering methods, OSP/ISP, optical equipment & applications, and project management.
  • Specific knowledge of fiber network design is required, ideally with experience in both long haul and metro situations.
  • Technical expertise in fiber construction methods and materials including fiber types, splice enclosures and fiber termination equipment.
  • Proficiency in use of current office productivity software and standard office equipment.
  • Working knowledge of GIS-based tools such as MapInfo, ArcView and Google Earth.
  • Experience with fiber test and acceptance is a plus including experience with fiber test analysis software such as Exfo Fastreporter.
  • Experience with project management software such as Sitetracker is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and the ability to function independently of supervision.
  • Proficient analytical, organizational, and time management skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize database management software system.
  • Must be flexible in terms of hours worked and available on a 24/7 basis.
  • Domestic travel may be required of this position upon occasion.


Base Salary Range: $97,800 - $128,000 USD annually, commensurate with experience.
