LOGISTICS MANAGER

Logistics Manager

Sutro Biopharma, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Logistics Manager to lead shipping, receiving, inventory control, and logistics operations at our South San Francisco headquarters. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the efficient, compliant, and uninterrupted flow of materials across our clinical supply chain.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a proven track record of managing complex logistics operations in a regulated environment. They will bring strong operational expertise, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of professionalism, accountability, and integrity. This individual will play a key role in supporting manufacturing, research, and development activities by ensuring the timely movement and control of critical materials and products.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all receiving and shipping operations
• Manage inbound receipts, inspect shipments for damage, verify quantities against packing slips and purchase orders, and ensure accurate transactions in the ERP system
• Coordinate the storage, distribution, and transportation of cGMP materials between internal facilities, CMOs, CDMOs, and external partners
• Manage all shipping requests, ensuring timely execution and proactive communication of shipment status and completion timelines
• Operates the Delivery Management System (including geographic design of service area) and daily delivery operations which entails order fulfillment, fleet/carrier management, pick-up and returned goods processing, and compliance operations
• Plan and oversee domestic and international shipments of temperature-sensitive materials, clinical supplies, samples, and products, ensuring proper packaging, environmental controls, documentation, and import/export regulatory compliance
• Maintain and continuously improve distribution network performance and transportation efficiency
• Partner with logistics providers and carriers to ensure efficient, compliant, and on-time delivery of critical materials
• Develop, monitor and report key performance indicators (On-time Shipment, On-time delivery, transportation costs)
• Establish, implement, and enforce shipping, receiving, inventory control, and material handling policies, procedures, and best practices
• Drive continuous improvement of indirect inventory management of laboratory supplies, control and space utilization using lean, 5S and problem-solving tools
• Collaborates with environmental, health and safety (EH&S), to ensure compliance with safety regulations and site-specific procedures
• Drive and maintain a high level of inventory accuracy through cycle counts and transaction integrity
• Manages off-site GMP storage locations and maintains an inventory tracking system
• Develops and maintains Shipping/Receiving/Transaction/Inventory Control/Material Transfer procedures and job specific standard work
• Provide guidance and safety compliance for transfer of hazardous waste, where applicable.   Coordinate with Facilities for pickup and transfer of hazardous waste
• Supports site-wide strategic plan initiatives, key principles, and activities.
• Responsible for ordering and management of shipping supplies
• Manage Costco receipts, delivery to point-of-use locations and bi-weekly replenishments
• Manage inventory of all printing paper in each dedicated location, ensuring zero stock-outs
• Manage outgoing mail with USPS, ordering supplies and coordinating maintenance on an as needed basis

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field preferred
• 5+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, inventory management and supply chain operations
• Experience operating within cGMP-regulated biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences environments
• Demonstrated experience managing inbound and outbound logistics operations, including domestic and international shipments
• Proven experience managing third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight carriers, and transportation service providers
• Experience with chemical safety handling and hazardous material transportation
• Knowledge of GDP, DOT, IATA, hazardous materials shipping, and import/export trade compliance requirements
• Strong verbal and written communications

• Proficient in computer skills using a variety of standard and custom desktop or web-based software
• Experience in managing activities required for cGMP control of materials. 
• Proficient in shipping management systems and pc environments
• ERP experience
• Physical requirements include ability to lift 25 lbs, frequent standing, walking, sitting and reaching with arms and hands.
• Possession of a reliable vehicle, liability insurance coverage and a California driver’s license.

The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this role at Sutro Biopharma’s California based locations will be $123,000 – $143,000 (not including bonus, equity, and benefits). The final salary offered will be dependent on several factors that include and are not limited to relevant previous experience, job responsibilities and duration of experience, the type and length of experience within the industry and education.
