The Logistics Rail Operator is responsible for overseeing the movement of rail cars, including raw materials and finished products, within the site. This role ensures that inbound and outbound rail cars are weighed, inspected, and transported safely while maintaining accurate logistics records and complying with safety standards. The position also involves managing yard operations, coordinating with plant and external personnel, and operating heavy equipment to ensure reliable railcar deliveries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily rail car inspections and weigh inbound and outbound cars to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Manage the safe and efficient movement of railcars within the plant and between loading stations.
- Operate locomotives and track-mobiles, ensuring proper maintenance and safe operation.
- Organize rail yard by implementing FIFO (First In, First Out) methods for storing cars, reducing demurrage costs.
- Update logistics tracking systems to maintain accurate records of rail car locations and movements.
- Communicate with plant personnel, CSX, and external vendors to coordinate rail car requests and ensure timely deliveries.
- Maintain detailed records, including scale tickets, Bills of Lading (BOLs), and switching spreadsheets.
- Ensure outbound rail cars meet compliance standards and are ready for transport by the weekend CSX services.
- Plan daily rail car movements based on plant needs, special requests, and operational requirements.
- Report any deficiencies or safety concerns related to rail cars, and take necessary actions to address them.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to update logistics tracking systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Safety-conscious and knowledgeable in railcar safety protocols.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment (locomotive, track-mobile) and perform routine maintenance.
- Physical ability to perform rail yard duties, including walking, climbing, and switching cars.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, and various hazards, including mechanical parts, electrical equipment, and chemicals.
- Requires the ability to perform physical tasks and work in environments with fumes, dust, and poor ventilation.
