We are looking for a Linux Engineer to join our high-performing team on a dynamic, mission-focused program. In this role, the Linux Engineer will be responsible for the implementation, administration, and maintenance of all aspects of the project’s Linux infrastructure, spanning physical and virtual servers across on-premises data center and cloud environments. This position offers hands-on opportunities to design, automate, and sustain enterprise-scale Linux systems in direct support of the mission. Candidates can choose to work in either Warrenton, VA or Tysons Corner, VA.
Responsibilities:
- Build, configure, secure, and maintain physical servers, virtual machines, and cloud instances using tools such as Kickstart, Puppet, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
- Monitor health, capacity, and performance of Linux system resources using tools such as Nagios, iLO, iDRAC, and VMware host consoles.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple development teams to support recurring operations and maintenance activities, including host creation, system performance tuning, hardware issue resolution, and general Linux administration.
- Plan, coordinate, and support data center activities including vendor coordination, hardware maintenance, and firmware updates for HP DL Series and Dell PowerEdge servers.
- Drive project-based development and implementation of new Linux hardware and software capabilities, including security enhancements, centralized logging, resource monitoring, and DevOps automation.
- Participate in and support applicable accreditation activities, including vulnerability scanning, configuration auditing, and compliance automation of Linux systems.
- Provide Linux system administration guidance and support to development teams, including disk management, account administration, and design reviews.
- Build, manage, and maintain Linux virtual machines within a VMware/vSphere environment.
- Create, manage, and sustain Linux server instances in cloud environments, ensuring consistency and security across infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and configuration management modules to support server builds, maintenance, and operational workflows.
- Write and maintain technical documentation including system configurations, operational procedures, and support materials.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, training, and experience.
- 8+ years of hands-on Systems and Linux Engineering experience in enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated experience as a Unix/Linux Systems Administrator with proficiency in RHEL/CentOS, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Experience developing Puppet modules for server provisioning via Kickstart and ongoing maintenance automation, including integration with TFTP, DHCP, and DNS.
- Experience with Centrify and Active Directory integration for management of Linux groups, accounts, and servers.
- Proficiency in one or more scripting and automation languages such as Puppet, Shell, Perl/CGI, or Python.
- Experience managing and monitoring Linux server resources within VMware/vSphere environments, including building and maintaining virtual machines.
- Experience with server and resource automation tools such as Puppet, Ansible, CGI/Perl, and Python.
- Direct hardware experience including maintenance and firmware updates for HP DL Series and Dell PowerEdge R630/730 servers, with iLOM/iDRAC proficiency.
- Prior experience working with Linux in cloud environments.
- US citizenship with an active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana
- Understanding of GitOps principles and tools such as Flux and ArgoCD
- Experience managing and troubleshooting GPU-based workloads, including CUDA
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or ONNX
- Hands-on experience with software development and programming in Python
- Familiarity with authentication and authorization frameworks such as OAuth and Keycloak
- Knowledge of container security tools such as Clair, Anchore, Rapid7, and/or NeuVector
- Experience with container registry technologies such as Harbor, Amazon ECR, Docker Hub, or similar platforms

Pay Range: $49,996.80 - $290,004.00
Pay ranges are a general guideline and not intended as a guaranteed and/or implied final compensation or salary for this job opening. Determination of official compensation or salary relies on several different factors including, but not limited to: level of position, complexity of job responsibilities, geographic location, work experience, education, certifications, Federal Government contract labor categories, and contract wage rates.
