Linux Cloud Engineer

The Linux Cloud Engineer will be responsible for the management and maintenance of our Linux Cloud infrastructure, ensuring the high availability and performance of our systems. The successful candidate must be familiar with all aspects of providing Linux support of an enterprise online payments platform, including support for backups, recovery testing, server configuration, buildout, monitoring, release support, routine maintenance, and production support. This job involves analyzing log files, error messages, and other relevant data to identify the root cause of problems. Job involves on call pager coverage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain our Linux servers, including configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Consult and recommend on all aspects of the platform, including backup strategy, frequency, recovery testing, approach to business continuity / disaster recovery.
  • Build and maintain secure, hardened servers (CIS), aiming for excellence in compliance with security standards.
  • Collaborate with Developers, DBA's, and other members of the IT team to plan and execute infrastructure upgrades and migrations.
  • Perform regular backups and disaster recovery testing to ensure the integrity of our systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with Linux-based applications and services (Apache, Java Jenkins.)
  • Ensure operational stability and high availability of server and storage environments through proactive monitoring and automated alerting systems.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to our Linux infrastructure.
  • Strong familiarity with cloud-native tools, and with providing support in the AWS and Azure cloud.
  • Support audit and Compliance related requests (PCI, SOC, SOX) as needed.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • AWS or Azure certification for Certified SysOps Administrator or Solutions Architect.
  • At least 5 years of experience working as a Linux Administrator.
  • At least 3 years of experience in AWS cloud (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, API Gateway, route53, Backup, CloudTrail)
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems, including RedHat, Amazon Linux and Ubuntu.
  • Experience with Windows servers, Active Directory and Power shell.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or KVM.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, such as Bash, Python, and Perl.
  • Experience with monitoring solutions and creation of dashboards using tools like New Relic, CloudWatch, Grafana or Splunk.
  • Experience with writing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), using tools like Ansible, Puppet, CloudFormation and Terraform.
  • Experience with Backups, Restores and Disaster recovery drills.
  • Strong understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts (Routing protocols, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP)
  • Experience with containerization tools and understand Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of Postgres database
  • Ability to implement and automate security controls, governance processes, and compliance validation (SOX and PCI).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
