Job Description
This role entails providing expertise in Linux system administration and Oracle database management within the Information Technology department while also serving as a liaison to the software development team. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned Senior DBA with experience managing databases exceeding 1TB in a highly available Production environment. Primary responsibilities will include environment setup, production support, and overseeing software upgrade deployments in the production environment.
Core Responsibilities and Expertise (including the following other duties may be assigned).:
- Oracle Enterprise Linux Administration:
- Installs, configures, and maintains Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) environments, ensuring secure, stable, and optimized performance.
- Database Installation and Management:
- Installs Oracle software, creates and configures databases, and maintains database instances.
- Develops and manages database objects, user accounts, roles, and security policies.
- Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Management:
- Designs and implements reliable backup and recovery processes using tools such as RMAN and Data Guard.
- Actively participates in the disaster recovery process to ensure business continuity.
- Performance Tuning and Optimization:
- Conducts in-depth Oracle database performance analysis, system sizing, and capacity planning.
- Continuously tunes and optimizes database performance, including stored procedures and dynamic SQL, leveraging Oracle-specific features.
- Performs ongoing analysis, refactoring, and tuning of OLTP/DSS schemas to ensure high performance.
- Standards, Best Practices, and Leadership:
- Develops, enforces, and communicates Oracle database standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Provide senior-level technical leadership to the DBA team and act as a lead DBA for critical projects.
- Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
- Provides DBA and Linux system administration support across multiple applications in test and production environments.
- Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and documents database issues efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Assists the support team in diagnosing and resolving performance problems in customer production environments.
- Mentoring and Developer Collaboration:
- Mentors application developers on designing high-performance, scalable data models and optimizing interactions with persistence layers.
- Specifies, designs, and implements load tests and performance diagnostic tools to identify bottlenecks and improve system performance.
- Project Management and Multi-tasking:
- Manages multiple projects concurrently and adapts to shifting priorities while ensuring timely completion.
- Participates in on-call rotations and is available for off-hours and weekend support during upgrades, maintenance, or troubleshooting.
- Cross-Platform Database Support:
- Provides support for multiple database platforms, ensuring consistent performance, security, and stability across environments.
- Experience as Oracle EBS Database Administrator
- Experience with upgrading, patching, and maintaining Oracle EBS applications.
- Experience with Oracle WebLogic, Concurrent Manager, and Workflow administration is a plus.
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix administration for Oracle EBS environments.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of extensive experience in the IT industry, specializing in database administration and Linux system management.
- 7+ years of proven expertise as an Oracle DBA, managing Oracle versions 19c, 21c, 23c, and 23ai in highly available production environments.
- 5+ years of experience in Linux system administration, with a focus on RHEL/Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) 7/8/9, managing enterprise-level database infrastructure.
- 5+ years of SQL Server DBA experience (including SQL Server 2022) is highly desirable.
- Strong background in database design and programming, with proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, and bulk/batch processing.
- Recent hands-on experience managing large-scale Oracle and SQL Server databases, ensuring performance, security, and high availability.
- Adept at supporting Oracle on Oracle Enterprise Linux and Windows platforms, with deep expertise in the following areas:
- Setting up and configuring new production environments.
- Installing Oracle Enterprise Linux, Oracle database software, and creating/configuring large databases (up to 5 TB).
- Configuring large server environments, backup and recovery strategies, and standby databases using RMAN and Data Guard.
- Performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting in large-scale environments.
- Automating tasks using Unix shell scripts.
- Managing and maintaining servers deployed in VMware virtualized environments.
- Proficient in designing and supporting large database architectures with partitioning for high-volume environments.
- Oracle DBA certification is a plus, reflecting validated expertise in Oracle database administration.
