Job Summary
Synechron is seeking an experienced Level 2 Support Engineer specializing in risk management systems within capital markets. This role is essential in monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting core risk calculation systems to ensure continuous, accurate, and compliant operations. You will collaborate with risk, technical, and business teams to resolve escalated issues, optimize system performance, and implement system upgrades, thereby contributing to the organization’s risk management and regulatory compliance objectives.
Software Requirements
Required Skills:
Proven experience supporting risk management or financial systems in capital markets
Strong SQL skills, with experience writing complex queries, data validation, and troubleshooting
Familiarity with batch processing tools and scheduling systems (e.g., Control-M, Autosys, or comparable)
Experience supporting system components such as market risk, credit risk, counterparty risk calculations
Knowledge of risk concepts such as market risk, credit risk, and exposure calculations
Proficiency in monitoring and resolving production issues in a client-server environment
Preferred Skills:
Support experience with trading, risk calculation engines, or finance platforms
Knowledge of data integration tools and processes
Exposure to cloud environments supporting risk systems (AWS, Azure)
Understanding of data validation, reconciliation, and reporting tools
Overall Responsibilities
Monitor and analyze risk management systems, especially batch processes and data flow, ensuring they run smoothly and reliably
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve escalated incidents related to market, credit, and counterparty exposures
Investigate data discrepancies using SQL queries and ensure correct exposures are reported
Support deployment of system upgrades, patches, and configurations to enhance system stability and compliance
Maintain detailed incident reports, resolution documentation, and system configuration records
Collaborate closely with risk teams, developers, and infrastructure groups to improve system robustness and performance
Assist in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of issues
Contribute to process automation initiatives and Continuous Improvement efforts in support workflows
Prepare and deliver reports on incident trends, system health, and risk metrics to management
Technical Skills (By Category)
Programming & Data Analysis:
Required: SQL query writing, basic scripting for automation (e.g., Shell, Python — optional but advantageous)
Preferred: Use of SQL tools for troubleshooting and validation of risk calculations
Risk & Data Management:
Required: Strong understanding of risk concepts such as market, credit, and counterparty risk calculations
Preferred: Experience working with risk calculation engines, exposure management tools, and reconciliation solutions
Operating Systems & Infrastructure:
Required: Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments for system troubleshooting and log analysis
Preferred: Basic knowledge of cloud environments (AWS, Azure) in relation to risk system support
Tools & Support Platforms:
Required: Incident management tools (e.g., JIRA, ServiceNow) and batch/job scheduling systems
Preferred: Support automation tools and monitoring dashboards (e.g., Splunk, Nagios)
Experience Requirements
Minimum of 5 years supporting risk or financial systems in a capital markets environment
Proven experience troubleshooting and resolving production incidents escalated from L1 support teams
Prior experience supporting system upgrades, patches, and configurations in complex enterprise settings
Demonstrated ability managing incident logs, root cause analyses, and implementing corrective actions
Experience with data reconciliation, validation, and regulatory reporting is desirable
Day-to-Day Activities
Monitor risk calculation systems, batch processes, and data flows continuously for operational health
Respond promptly to escalated incidents, troubleshooting issues related to market, credit, or counterparty risks
Perform root cause analysis, crafting detailed documentation of issues and resolutions
Collaborate with technical and risk teams to implement system upgrades, patches, and configuration changes
Investigate data discrepancies using SQL and reconcile data to ensure accurate risk reporting
Participate in shift handovers, incident review meetings, and status updates with stakeholders
Support automation of recurring support tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual interventions
Contribute to the continuous improvement of incident management procedures and system stability measures
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, or related discipline
Certifications in risk management, systems support, or relevant technical areas are a plus (e.g., ITIL, supporting vendor certifications)
Proven experience supporting capital markets risk systems in a support or operations capacity
