Department OverviewThe Senior Privacy Counsel, Video Security & Access Control will be a member of the global products counsel team within the Motorola Solutions commercial legal department.
Job Description

The Senior Product and Privacy Counsel, Video Security & Access Control (VSAC) will serve as the product-specific privacy and data expert within the Global Products Counsel organization for the video and access control businesses of Motorola Solutions, Inc. (“Motorola Solutions”). Motorola Solutions’ video portfolio includes a variety of video analytics, access control and other security products through a number of leading brands including Avigilon, Pelco, Vigilant, Watchguard and OpenPath. The Senior Product and Privacy Counsel will report to the Legal Director, Mobile Video Solutions — and also work closely with the Lead Counsel, VSAC, the Global Data Protection Office, product, engineering, security and business teams —to advise on the privacy implications of new and existing video and security solutions, which include advanced analytics and AI such as Appearance Search™ and license plate recognition, and to advise on data privacy aspects of commercial transactions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide advice and counsel to VSAC product teams and business leaders on relevant global privacy and security laws, standards and policies, including laws around the use of biometrics and artificial intelligence
Identify and develop ways to mitigate product specific data and security risks
Provide proactive,creative, business oriented legal guidance to product leaders to facilitate launch of new and innovative products and services while ensuring all privacy and data protection risks are properly mitigated
Serve as VSAC product and privacy subject matter expert in connection with domestic and international sales and legal teams responding to requests for proposals or other customer solicitations, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including data security and privacy clauses, to manage legal risks Work together with the Global Data Protection Office to expand Motorola Solutions internal controls across VSAC to ensure the products and services of VSAC are supporting our customer’s compliance obligations with applicable laws, standards and policies as well as our own, and identify and implement additional controls critical to the VSAC business.
Support security and other teams, as needed, in responding to any data security incident responses
Cross-functional collaboration with the government affairs team to engage with privacy regulators as may be required, and with the compliance team to ensure compliance with company standards and policies
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Juris Doctorate degree from a top rated ABA accredited law school
Active member of a State Bar Association with authorization to practice within the state in which the employee works
Minimum 5 years of work experience as an attorney for private law firm and/or as in-house counsel; direct experience advising global product and engineering teams on integrating privacy and security into new and existing products and services; commercial transaction experience, reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts
Strong understanding of technology and law, with a general understanding of cloud industry technologies, IaaS, PaaS and SaaS.
Prior experience advising product teams in connection with development and use of biometrics and video technologies preferred
CIPP/US, CIPP/E and CIPM certifications strongly preferred
Working knowledge of global data and privacy laws and standards, including but not limited to CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA, EU directives on electronic commerce, data retention and law enforcement
Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment and decision-making skills within the context of a fast-paced and high stakes business
Strong business acumen, with ability to understand the company’s business objectives, anticipate the legal issues that could arise and drive solutions through execution
Basic Requirements
- Minimum of a Juris Doctorate and 5+ years of experience
