Associate Counsel
Overview
As Associate Counsel, you will be a member of the bank's Legal Department, a high-energy group of legal professionals dedicated to exceptional client service, value, and trustworthy advice to enable the bank's business. You will join the Legal Department's Corporate Support group. The group provides legal advice and works on matters that relate to a broad range of Bank management activities, which include commercial real estate, corporate treasury, marketing, risk management, affiliate transactions, procurement, SEC reporting, investor relations, board and corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions. The successful candidate will be eager to learn and will demonstrate the ability to leverage strong corporate or commercial skills to address a variety of complex legal matters and solve problems.
Responsibilities
- Legal Counsel - Provides excellent legal counsel to Bank management and associates in order to anticipate legal issues, solve problems, and minimize legal risks and losses. Takes responsibility for developing applicable legal knowledge and expertise in assigned areas. Consults with both internal and external counsel on the resolution of legal matters.
- Business Support - Proactively engages with assigned business units and associates to provide exceptional legal support. Performs a range of tasks to support management and more senior legal counsel throughout daily operations. Effectively consults and communicates instructions on the handling of specific transactions or other sensitive matters. Develops and implements policies and procedures utilized across the enterprise.
- Documentation - Drafts, negotiates, and maintains contracts or other transaction-specific legal documentation. Develops new legal forms and templates.
- Communication - Communicates directly in-person, by telephone, by videoconference, and by email with bank officers, other business leaders, and associates. Must communicate clearly, effectively, and politely.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) and Bachelor's Degrees from accredited institutions and at least two (2) years of relevant post-JD legal experience .

- Must be licensed to practice law in North Carolina or committed to be licensed in North Carolina.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least three (3) years of corporate, commercial, or banking experience in a leading law firm or corporate legal department, or experience serving in legal functions within the United States military or government that would develop equivalent skills.
