The Opportunity

As the 1848V Legal Operations & Contracts Lead, you will manage contracts, assess risks, and optimize legal workflows across our portfolio of ventures. You will review, redline, and negotiate contracts, ensuring alignment with our business needs while mitigating risk.

This role will also serve as the liaison between 1848 Ventures, Westfield’s Legal Department, and external counsel, facilitating efficient processes. You will create templates, improve contract management systems, and enhance compliance, ensuring our ventures operate smoothly and securely.


What You’ll Do

  • Review, redline, and provide contract recommendations, including NDAs, vendor agreements, and SaaS customer agreements.
  • Facilitate contract negotiations and approvals, ensuring alignment with our internal teams, Legal Department, and legal advisors.
  • Support due diligence and legal documentation for new venture initiatives.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure contracts meet business needs while protecting 1848 Ventures’ interests.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between 1848 Ventures, Westfield’s Legal Department, and external law firms.
  • Track legal requests and ensure timely responses from external counsel to avoid bottlenecks in our business operations.
  • Develop templates and playbooks to streamline contract processes across our portfolio of companies.
  • Evaluate legal and regulatory risks associated with our venture-building activities and provide strategic guidance to mitigate exposure.
  • Develop and maintain a risk assessment framework for contracts and partnerships.
  • Optimize contract management workflows, implementing technology solutions to enhance efficiencies in document tracking, version control, and legal review turnaround times.
  • Assist with corporate governance matters, including entity formation, compliance filings, and maintaining legal records.
  • Maintain a centralized legal repository for all agreements, ensuring accessibility and organization.
  • Stay current on legal developments impacting startups, SaaS businesses, and venture studios.

  • You anticipate legal challenges before they arise and develop proactive solutions to mitigate risk and enhance business agility. 
  • You work seamlessly with cross-functional teams, translating legal concepts into practical business solutions.
  • You thrive on optimizing workflows, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, and implementing best practices in contract and risk management.

Travel & Work Environment

This role is remote or hybrid, depending on your location. Occasional travel may be required for legal strategy meetings, team collaboration, and business negotiations.
