Legal Counsel

Location: Malaysia
Language Requirements: Professional proficiency of English and Chinese a must as the role will require drafting and negotiating with Chinese clients. 

Telesign’s Legal Department is looking for a talented Legal Counsel to help support our growing business. We're looking for someone with excellent drafting, negotiation and communication (written and oral) skills. You have the ability to understand business objectives and think creatively and outside-the-box to find resolutions to achieve the requirements of all parties. You can identify and implement process improvements, enjoy working with different teams, and loves the challenge of learning about new subject matters and issues. Your responsibilities will include taking ownership of the drafting, review, negotiation, and management of a wide range of commercial contracts or other legal documentation with customers, suppliers etc. You will collaborate with internal teams to provide legal and strategic business advice to proactively identify, mitigate and manage any legal risks in the agreements, consistent with internal corporate policies and processes.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to work efficiently and independently; manage high volumes of tasks and projects with little guidance; react with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require a quick response or turnaround; think creatively and be proactive in solving problems and streamlining solutions. The candidate will also have great attention to detail while still meeting tight deadlines, have great organization skills and can easily switch gears. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must as this position involves direct contact with principal business owners. This position may be asked to work non-regular hours based on business needs.  

Essential Qualifications 

• A recognized law degree and an active license to practice law  
• 3 – 5 years’ experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating the legal terms of a broad range of standard commercial contracts 
• Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese, both orally and in writing is a must
• Fluency in working with MS office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint  
• Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations 
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage simultaneous projects under short deadlines 
• Strong interpersonal skills to work as a team-player and to effectively work with people of diverse culture across a variety of business disciplines 
• Strong experience of working closely and effectively with sales in high pressure sales driven environment 
• Ability to work autonomously as well as in a cross functional team 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia, orally and in writing is a plus
• Substantial in-house experience in the software licensing or technology industry (including cloud products) is a plus
