We are seeking two (2) Legal Counsel, Registries to join our team and support the continued growth and success of our organization.

In this role, you will provide strategic legal leadership and guidance across multiple registry operations, helping ensure the integrity, compliance, and continued evolution of ISC’s registry services. Reporting to the Executive VP, Corporate Governance and Registry Excellence, you will work at the intersection of legislation, policy, technology, and operations, advising on complex transactions, interpreting and advising on legal frameworks and major service contracts, and supporting initiatives that shape the future of registry services for Saskatchewan and beyond. Other highlights include:

  • Provide strategic and operational legal advice on registry operations, legislation, governance, and business initiatives for existing and potential new clients.
  • Interpret and apply legislation, regulations, case law, and service contracts across multiple registries to ensure innovative and compliant service delivery.
  • Manage complex transactional matters and high-risk customer issues, including researching legal implications and minimizing liability.
  • Identify and mitigate legal, policy, and operational risks, recommending changes to processes, policies, legislation as needed.
  • Liaise and collaborate with external regulators and stakeholders, including the Saskatchewan Office of Public Registry Administration
  • Communicate legal guidance to executive leaders, operational teams, and front-line staff in clear, practical terms.
  • Draft, review, and authorize legal documents related to registry matters
  • Provide legal expertise and leadership for projects involving service development, design, or evolution, technology enhancements, and new registry-related business opportunities.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.), and membership or eligibility for membership in the Law Society of Saskatchewan
  • Legal experience in public sector, corporate, or private practice; a minimum of five years’ experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of and ability and willingness to acquire deep expertise across several registry-related areas of law, including real property, secured transactions, corporate/commercial, debtor-creditor, privacy, security, information management, intellectual property, technology and contract law, as well as  legislation, regulations, and common law associated with multiple registries, including land titles, personal property, corporate registries, and surveys.
  • Understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, including interpretation, development, and amendment of legislation and regulations
  • Ability to acquire a strong working knowledge of technology systems functionality and service delivery environments for multiple registries

  • Proven ability to identify legal issues, conduct legal and policy research, and deliver clear, practical legal advice and opinions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate and apply complex legal concepts for diverse audiences
  • Strong judgment, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders or clients
  • Ability to negotiate, problem-solve, and support resolution of complex legal and operational issues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism
