What you’ll do

  • Legal Advisory: Provide practical and robust commercial contract advice and support primarily for Weir’s Minerals and ESCO Australia operations, assisting with a broad range of general legal matters and dispute support.

  • Contract Management: Manage and deliver high-quality commercial contracts, ensuring effective risk management and supporting business growth through sound legal guidance.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop close working relationships with internal business units across Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region to provide timely, commercially oriented legal advice and build legal maturity.

  • Legal Operations: Assist in developing and managing legal operations including strategic planning, business process improvements, documentation, and legal training rollout to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Policy Implementation: Support the implementation of Weir Legal policies such as the Code of Conduct, Competition Manual, and Commercial Manual, and identify opportunities for legal and compliance training.

  • External Counsel Management: Identify, appoint, and instruct external law firms as required to support legal matters.

  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture.

What you’ll bring

Must-haves:

  • Qualified lawyer with a law degree and Australian legal practising certificate.

  • Minimum 5 years’ legal and/or commercial contract experience, ideally with exposure to contracting in a business or in-house environment.

  • Strong commercial contract skills with the ability to manage complex legal issues and provide clear, practical advice.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain legal concepts in lay terms to diverse audiences and build trusted relationships.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in industries related to mining, heavy industrial, construction, transport, logistics, or manufacturing.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
