About the Role
The Legal Assistant will support attorneys handling workers’ compensation defense matters. This is a hands-on role requiring strong knowledge of the WC defense process, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage a heavy, fast-paced desk with competing deadlines.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Process, edit, format, file, and serve legal documents from dictation
- Prepare WCAB-compliant pleadings utilizing EAMS
- Execute Panel QME requests and manage the selection process
- Maintain professional communication with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties
- Manage attorney calendars, including deadlines, hearings, and follow-ups
- Organize and maintain case files (physical and electronic), ensuring accuracy and accessibility
- Monitor case progress and escalate issues requiring attorney involvement
- Handle detailed timekeeping and assist with billing entry
- Obtain subpoenaed records and assist with document production requests
- Provide general administrative and litigation support as needed
Qualifications
- 5+ years of legal assistant experience supporting workers’ compensation defense matters
- Strong knowledge of the workers’ compensation defense process
- Experience with EAMS e-filing and WCAB procedures required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Typing speed of 70+ WPM
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
