The Role

About this role

Role Summary

  • We are looking for a highly creative and strategically minded Learning Experience Designer who can bring strong design thinking, multimedia capability, and quality governance to our internal learning portfolio.

  • This role is intended for someone who can elevate the overall learner experience by shaping the design approach, conceptualising engaging learning solutions, creating high-impact multimedia assets, and conducting rigorous quality reviews across digital learning products.

  • The ideal candidate will be able to take complex business and compliance content and translate it into learner-friendly, modern, visually engaging experiences suited for BlackRock’s professional audience. They should be comfortable working across multiple learning formats including micro-learning, scenario-based experiences, animation-led explainers, and other emerging learning modes.

  • This person will play a key role in ensuring that learning solutions are not only instructionally sound, but also visually compelling, user-centric, scalable, and aligned to firm standards.

Key Responsibilities

1) Learning Experience & Design Thinking

  • Apply design thinking principles to learning problems, with a strong focus on learner needs, usability, clarity, and engagement.

  • Translate complex content into effective learning experience concepts, structures, and creative approaches.

  • Partner with stakeholders, SMEs, and internal teams to shape learning solutions that go beyond traditional click-through training.

  • Recommend the right modality for the need — such as micro-learning, scenario-based learning, guided journeys, multimedia-led explainers, or performance support assets.

2) Storyboarding & Creative Direction

  • Create strong concept notes, storyboards, design briefs, and visual approaches for digital learning solutions.

  • Rapidly interpret new subject matter and convert it into clear, compelling learning narratives.

  • Guide the visual and interaction approach for modules that may later be developed by specialist developers.

  • Bring fresh thinking on how to make learning more engaging and modern for BlackRock employees.

3) Multimedia Design & Asset Creation

  • Create or direct the creation of multimedia assets including:

  • explainer videos

  • motion graphics

  • simple animations

  • visual learning assets

  • micro-learning components

  • Use multimedia strategically to simplify complex concepts, especially in areas such as compliance, risk, AI, and financial topics.

  • Support the team in introducing newer, richer learning formats that improve engagement without compromising clarity or governance.

4) Quality Review & Learning Standards

  • Act as a quality gatekeeper for digital learning outputs created by internal or external developers.

  • Review modules for:

  • learner experience quality

  • instructional flow

  • visual consistency

  • interaction suitability

  • accessibility considerations

  • content clarity

  • overall production quality

  • Ensure outputs are aligned with internal design standards, brand expectations, and the intended learning experience.

  • Identify improvements proactively and provide actionable feedback to designers / developers before finalisation.

5) Reusable Design Frameworks

  • Help define and maintain reusable design patterns, templates, and quality benchmarks for the team.

  • Contribute to building a more consistent, scalable, and modern learning design ecosystem across the function.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong design thinking mindset with the ability to solve learning problems creatively and practically.

  • Strong capability in storyboarding, concept design, and learner-centric solution design.

  • Good understanding of modern digital learning formats, especially:

  • micro-learning

  • scenario-based learning

  • multimedia-led learning

  • visual storytelling

  • newer, more engaging learning modes for a professional workforce

  • Strong visual judgment and ability to critique learning outputs meaningfully.

  • Ability to balance creativity with enterprise appropriateness, clarity, and quality standards.

  • Confidence in reviewing work created by others and raising the bar on learner experience.

Core Skills Required

Learning Experience Design

  • Experience designing engaging digital learning solutions for adult learners.

  • Strong storyboard and design-document creation capability.

  • Ability to translate business / compliance-heavy content into learner-friendly experiences.

  • Knowledge of modern learning design approaches and learner engagement techniques.

Multimedia & Visual Design

  • Strong multimedia sensibility, including video, visual storytelling, motion-led explanation, or animation-based communication.

  • Experience with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent for multimedia asset creation.

  • Ability to create polished, professional, and enterprise-appropriate visual outputs.

Quality Assurance / Review

  • Strong eye for detail and quality.

  • Ability to assess and improve digital learning against defined standards.

  • Experience reviewing content for clarity, consistency, visual quality, and learner usability.

Good to Have

  • Familiarity with Articulate 360 (Rise / Storyline) to review builds effectively and collaborate well with developers.

  • Familiarity with Vyond or similar animation tools.

  • Exposure to AI-enabled content creation tools for learning / multimedia workflows.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Learning solutions feel more modern, engaging, and learner-centric.

  • Storyboards and creative approaches become stronger before development even begins.

  • Developers receive clearer, better-quality design direction.

  • Final outputs improve in quality, consistency, and usability.

  • The team starts adopting richer learning modes, especially micro-learning and newer digital formats.

  • Quality issues are caught earlier and with greater consistency.

What We Do

As the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock partners with investors around the globe to help them (and those on whose behalf they invest) plan for life’s most important goals – like retirement, home ownership and their children’s education. Our clients range from governments, foundations and other large institutions to those investing on behalf of individuals, including firefighters, nurses, teachers and factory workers. BlackRock was founded with the idea of creating a better asset management firm — one that was purpose-driven, focused on clients and risk management, and propelled by data and technology. Our breakthrough Aladdin® platform is BlackRock’s technological backbone, helping investors see and manage their whole portfolios in one place – from constructing investments to monitoring risk and executing trades. Used by hundreds of external institutions around the world, Aladdin combines powerful analytics and a common language to help investment teams make faster, more informed decisions across public and private markets. It’s a key part of our business and one of the reasons we’re trusted to manage more assets than any other investment manager today. At BlackRock, we challenge conventions and raise the bar for what’s possible. We harness technology to unlock new solutions, simplify complexity, and deliver investment strategies that meet people where they are.
