We are seeking a Lead Test Automation Developer to add their skills and lead our team in an enterprise test organization responsible for verifying and validating product visual quality, as well as the accuracy of the support data, from a variety of digital collection systems. This is an exciting and dynamic job opportunity where you will advise the organization on methods and industry best practices to further enhance software testing and ensure improved software quality. The test automation development team researches and develops innovative test automation solutions for multiple software architectures and systems to validate functional and performance capabilities. To include but not limited to, evaluation and implementation of automation tools, development and deployment of automated test suites and test harnesses in multiple environments, and provide automated solutions to streamline business processes.
In this role, you will

  • Oversee a team or teams performing technical specification implementation, configuration, customized development of add-ons to off-the-shelf products as well as customized development of web-based workflow tools.
  • Be responsible for the integration, testing, deployment, infrastructure requirements, as well as oversight of ongoing operational maintenance and upgrades of existing web and off-the-shelf test and business workflow tools
  • Interpret product and project requirements and translate these into implementable solutions that are supportable and cost effective
  • Work with the customer teams and technical leads to identify and prioritize candidates for web development and/or automation.
  • Communicate and align the automation strategy and work collaboratively with the rest of the team to build innovative business process and test tools
  • Design and develop test automation capabilities and applications using various test automation tools written in specific programming languages. For example:
    • Selenium scripts using Java
    • HPE/MicroFocus Unified Function Test (UFT) scripts using VBScript
    • HPE/MicroFocus LoadRunner using ANSI C
    • CA DevTest using Java and JavaScript
  • Provide expert technical consultancy, expertise and advice to the Government on all matters related to technical architecture, infrastructure and software development operations, maintenance, and modernization, to include feasibility for all these factors.


The ideal candidate is highly technical and has a proven commitment to quality with a solid understanding of test concepts, software architecture and familiar with the latest software development methodologies, technologies and application performance analysis. The candidate must be self-motivated and be able to work with other team members on multiple projects. The candidate must have strong trouble shooting skills and the persistence to resolve issues. The ideal candidate:

  • Has demonstrated ability to lead architecture, design, and implementation of web-based workflow tools and automated testing framework to include the development of automated test and business process capabilities.
  • Designs, researches and develops highly advanced applications, which may result in new products, processes, and projects.
  • Often heads one or more projects or a small team.
  • Considered a recognized expert within the organization.
  • Plans, conducts and supervises assignments, generally involving larger and more important projects or multiple projects.
  • Evaluates and determines changes in methods or procedures in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Oversees Web Development Team use of AngularJS for the frontend, Java for the middle-tier and Oracle backend.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of programming and server software operations.
  • Experienced in graphics, layout, scripting, programming, as well as development involving compatibility and seamless integration with various technologies such as Java and ColdFusion.
  • Demonstrated experience with different web development and test automation approaches, tools, and technology stacks.
    • Develop and maintain automated tests for verifying the functionality of the application's UI using UFT or Selenium.
    • Develop backend workflow scripts to incorporate specific business processes related to test planning, defect management and test reporting.
    • Provide the ability to properly test headless services (REST, SOAP, APIs) by developing automated tests using SOAPUI and CA DevTest.
    • Hands on experience with web application technologies including ColdFusion, HTML, CSS, Oracle (for the back-end), AngularJS or React, and Java MVC frameworks.
  • Experience overseeing agile development lifecycle and project management for Test Automation Team and Web Development Team.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 16 Years with High School;
  • 10 Years with BS/BA,
  • 8 Years with MS/MA


Required Knowledge Assessment:

  • Expert-level knowledge of software testing practices, including test planning, test automation (API and UI), and defect management to include
  • Experience or working knowledge in software quality assurance and software testing.
  • Experience with the design, architecture, and implementation of test automation frameworks, infrastructure, and tools.
  • Experience developing multi-tiered web applications, Single Page Applications, and web applications.
  • Hands-on, current experience coding applications in a variety of Object Oriented, and/or dynamic programming languages.
  • Experience with relational databases.
  • Experience / working knowledge and demonstrated ability to lead development efforts in a fast-paced agile Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, & Continuous Deployment environment.
  • Experience or working knowledge with the following:
    • Web services and API testing
    • CI/CD, Jenkins (or alternative)
    • Selenium automation tools
    • Containerization
    • Cloud deployment & testing
    • Microservices
    • Jersey / JAX-RS / Hibernate
    • Subversion or GIT
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple concurrent development efforts, and mentoring junior software developers on methodologies, coding standards and best practices.
  • Knowledge of ICD 503 requirements and their application to secure information systems.


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
• Bachelor of Science in a related field
• Experience with Service and Network Virtualization
• Experience with CA DevTest Solutions
• Experience with HP Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), Octane, Unified Function Test (UFT), LoadRunner (LR)
• Experience with Dynatrace, Application Performance Management
• Experience with open source test tools (Selenium, SoapUI, JMeter, JUnit, etc.)
• Experience with tools to enable DevOps, specifically Jenkins, GitLab, Nexus, ThreadFix, SonarQube, Redmine, PCF, Docker, RedHat, OpenShift
• Understanding of web services, APIs, OGC services (WMS, WFS, etc.)
• Understanding of Agile frameworks and methodologies, specifically SAFe, SCRUM and TDD/BDD
• Understanding of Cloud technology (AWS)
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $140690 - $239140
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
