This position requires leading, performing, mentoring, and providing technical expertise on cooled and uncooled turbine components design and analysis. In addition, the candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams and global research partners in charge of development of the next generation of simulation and analysis capabilities by integrating AI with traditional computational tools such as CFD, and multi-physics solvers.

The Lead Turbine Design Engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise as a program team leader in the identification and development of new turbine components. You will lead the design effort and be technically responsible for the project. You will provide reports to internal and customer senior stakeholders. You will lead proposals to address future business opportunities, value engineering and program/process changes.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in multi-discipline engineering tasks associated with the design, development, and testing of turbine components, particularly turbine blades and vanes.
  • Lead in conceiving new and innovative concepts for turbine components cooling schemes, to minimize cooling flow requirements while achieving highly durable design.
  • Champion turbine design system continuous improvement initiatives, through lessons learned, best practices, and comparative benchmarking, to achieve design cycle time reduction and development cost reduction.
  • Lead engine test activities pertinent to turbine components validation and qualification, selecting instrumentation, creating test plan and participating in engine test activities.
  • Participate in and contribute to development of Physics-AI models and surrogate models to accelerate engineering workflows for CFD, thermal analysis.
  • Responsible for working with associated enterprise project engineers and product chiefs to support development of new growth engines as well as supporting existing fielded engines.
  • Drive the development and implementation of strategies in support of the Turbines department’s vision and objectives, ultimately supporting Honeywell Aerospace vision and objectives. Be recognized by the business management as primary technical authority.
  • Communicate technical results to internal, external customers and senior stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers in the team.
Qualifications

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.

You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in turbine component design and analysis or related mechanical engineering design discipline; minimum of 6+ years of experience with a PhD in a related field

  • Advanced knowledge of thermal/fluid sciences, as applied to cooled turbine component design. 
  • Proficient in using advanced CFD and CHT analysis tools such as STARCCM+.
  • Knowledge of Turbine manufacturing and casting processes.
  • Knowledge and prior experience with developing AI models for physics-based simulation, engineering analysis, multi-physics modeling, or surrogate modeling.
  • Strong evidence of demonstrated team leadership abilities, motivating and mentoring others.
  • Strong teamwork skills, able to work in variety of team roles within cross-functional team.
  • Experience in working with global teams across time zones.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
