CONTEXT
We are in the middle of a major infrastructure evolution, moving from a traditional bare-metal environment to a modern and scalable AWS setup. The migration has started and key foundations are already in place.
We are looking for a hands-on technical leader to take this transformation further. This role sits at the core of one of our most strategic initiatives and combines deep technical involvement with technical leadership in a regulated fintech environment.
The infrastructure team currently consists of two engineers with 3 to 5 years of experience. As part of the team’s growth, we are strengthening the infrastructure function by recruiting both a Lead System Engineer and an additional System Engineer.
- Lead the AWS migration by designing, planning, and executing the move from on-premise and data center systems to AWS
Maintain and operate legacy systems until their migration to the cloud
Act as a hands-on engineer: architect, build, troubleshoot, and resolve complex infrastructure issues
Modernize the infrastructure stack using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible), Docker, AWS services, and MySQL
Ensure infrastructure implementations comply with PCI-DSS and National Bank of Belgium requirements
Manage MySQL databases, including backup, recovery, security, performance tuning, and optimization
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the infrastructure team
Collaborate closely with developers to design scalable, reliable, and secure systems, and communicate technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Troubleshoot software development infrastructure issues (build, deployment, test failures)
Help prioritize and follow up on infrastructure-related projects and coordinate with third-party providers
Participate in an on-call rotation (shared 24/7 support, approximately 1–2 times per month)
Maintain clear and structured technical documentation
- At least 10 years of experience in systems engineering
- Strong AWS experience (at scale).
- Solid expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
- Strong Linux and Docker skills.
- Proficiency in Bash scripting.
- Good understanding of networking
- Experience with both on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
- MySQL database administration (performance, backup and restore)
- Basic knowledge of HSMs.
- Experience operating 24/7 production systems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership skills, with the ability to coach and guide others
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate effiectively with both tech and non-technical audiences
