Mastercard's Services - Portfolio Intelligence Program is seeking a Lead Software Development Engineer to drive the architecture, design, and delivery of high-performance analytics platforms that empower businesses worldwide to unlock maximum value from their data. Our next-generation platform integrates industry-leading analytics, advanced software architecture, and the latest web technologies.
Lead Engineers at this level are expected to demonstrate over 10 years of overall experience in software engineering, with clear evidence of expanding technical ownership and scope. You will play a pivotal role in shaping technical direction, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the team's output meets the highest standards for quality and velocity. Collaboration with global teams, including those based in Pune, New York City, and Arlington, is essential.
Role:
Drive technical leadership across the software development lifecycle, actively influencing architecture and design decisions, and unblocking teams to achieve their objectives efficiently.
Mentor and develop engineers through structured technical guidance, code reviews, and leading design discussions, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
Articulate technical decisions, trade-offs, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment.
Deliver high throughput and velocity without compromising engineering quality, acting as a force multiplier to enhance team productivity, execution speed, and technical outcomes through hands-on contribution and strategic leadership.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into robust, scalable software solutions.
Champion best practices in software engineering, ensuring clean, maintainable code using object-oriented principles and modern frameworks.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in both development and production environments.
Expected to act as a force multiplier, improving overall team productivity, execution speed, and technical outcomes through leadership and hands-on contribution.
All About You:
10+ years of overall software engineering experience, with a demonstrable track record of technical growth, increasing ownership, and driving impactful outcomes.
Proven capability to mentor and develop engineers, evidenced by successful technical guidance, effective code reviews, and facilitation of design discussions.
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts, decisions, and trade-offs to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated technical leadership in driving architecture and design decisions, influencing technical direction, and enabling team success.
Strong experience in software development for data-driven backend applications, including database technologies such as Postgres, data modelling, and data architecture design.
Expertise in Java and proficiency with frontend technologies like ReactJS.
Advanced object-oriented programming skills, excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Experience:
Leading the design and implementation of scalable, maintainable software systems in a collaborative environment.
Managing and optimising CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
Familiarity with testing RESTful APIs, load testing, and unit testing using modern tools.
Experience working with global, cross-functional teams.
