The Boeing Company is looking for a Lead Software Engineer – Systems to join the Air Proprietary 2 team located in Berkeley, MO. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

Phantom Works Air Proprietary Program 2 has the need for a P5 Platform Software Architect Lead. The Platform Software Architect will be responsible for overall Software Architecture on the program. Primary responsibility will be in Mission Systems, but responsibilities also cover Vehicle Management, Health Management, Digital Infrastructure, and program BGS software products.  The Architect will be responsible for Software KPPs and TPMs across the System and will lead the team through applicable Technical Design Reviews.  This leadership role will include the technical integration of software across the air vehicle and associated ground systems, ensuring technical consistency across the system.  This position requires a senior engineer who has experience in large-scale platform integration of software across multiple suppliers, internal and external, and across multiple avionics and ground systems. This senior engineer will ensure quality and technical excellence through the application of applicable software design practices.  This senior engineer will also coordinate with software engineering leads in similar roles on other programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the design, development, analyses, and maintenance of software systems that meet industry, customer and internal quality, safety, security and certification standards

  • Partners with appropriate stakeholders to inform system definition and oversees translation of system-level requirements into software requirements and models that meet customer, operational and performance requirements and have clear traceability to design, code and test artifacts

  • Oversees completion of software system-level analyses to identify risk, issues and opportunities; oversees integration and deployment of mitigation actions throughout the software lifecycle

  • Oversees code reviews to ensure alignment to requirements and standards

  • Oversees monitoring and reviewing test completion, verification processes and issue resolution for software systems

  • Oversees development of user documentation and training to educate end users about usage of software products

  • Oversees review of product and process for alignment with project plans and industry standards by consulting on tracking and evaluation of internal team and supplier performance

  • Researches and oversees implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development

  • Oversees software project management and software supplier management activities

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 15+ years of experience in Embedded Software Development or Architecture

  • 15+ years of experience in Hardware/Software Integration

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources

  • Knowledge of company, state, federal and/or International compliance regulations (e.g. import/export, intellectual properties, International Standards Organization [ISO], Federal Aviation Administration [FAA], Joint Aviation Authorities [JAA], International Civil Aviation Organization [ICAO], International Traffic In Arms Regulations [ITAR])

  • Knowledge of customer's/supplier's organization, processes, policies and procedures, products, requirements, capabilities, practices, support resources, preferences, constraints, etc.

  • Knowledge of engineering discipline(s) (e.g., electrical, mechanical, software engineering) applied to product related systems (e.g., aircraft, avionics, propulsion, spacecraft, information/ communication systems) throughout the product development life cycle, from concept development to deployment
    Knowledge of specification format requirements, guidelines, and change control processes

  • Understanding of relationship between specifications/standards and aircraft/product certification systems
    Knowledge of product lifecycle, including manufacturing, deployment, modification, aging and continued service, and disposal
    Knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle
    Knowledge of software development processes in compliance with established internal and industry standards, guidelines, and best practices in the development, testing, and deployment of software

  • Knowledge of implementation, validation, and verification processes, practices, and guidelines to ensure software development quality, performance, and safety

  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area

  • This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance

Summary pay range for Lead: $156,400.00 - $211,600.00.
