As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Bank, you'll architect resilient, scalable, and ultra-low-latency systems that provide direct electronic market access across multiple asset classes. You will work on the connectivity platform that sits between our algorithmic and market-making engines, and the world's major exchanges and venues. Your technical leadership will translate directly into faster executions, tighter risk control, better client outcomes, and firmwide innovation.
Job responsibilities

  • Lead by example: Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering teams, contractors, and vendors to deliver robust solutions.
  • Build excellence: Develop secure, high-quality production C++ code; review and debug code to uphold standards and reliability.
  • Drive impact: Influence product design, application functionality, and technical operations to enhance latency, throughput, and stability.
  • Own domains: Serve as a subject matter expert across key areas of electronic trading, architecture, and performance engineering.
  • Champion best practices: Advocate firmwide frameworks, tools, and SDLC practices; elevate craftsmanship within the engineering community.
  • Shape technology choices: Guide peers and decision-makers on the adoption of leading-edge technologies that move the business forward.
  • Strengthen culture: Contribute to a team environment built on diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
  • Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.


Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • at least 6 years of proven experience in low-latency design and development using C++ and C, with a strong emphasis on performance optimization and deterministic system behavior.
  • Advanced C++ expertise, supported by formal training or certification.
  • Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability in production.
  • Proficiency with C++ on Unix/Linux, including performance diagnostics and tooling.
  • Scripting skills to automate development, testing, and operational workflows.
  • Strong understanding of software–hardware interaction for low-latency systems.
  • Experience creating and automating test strategies and plans for both functional and non-functional requirements, and executing them.
  • Depth in application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines.
  • Strong CS fundamentals: multithreading, memory management, object-oriented design.
  • Collaborative mindset: Work closely with Application Development, Business Analysis, and Operations teams.


    Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Solid working knowledge of FIX and binary protocols, as well as market microstructure.
  • Experience with low-latency connectivity to FX, Commodities, Rates, Credits, Futures, and Options markets (such as LME, Eurex, CME).
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure.
