Be an integral part of an agile team that's constantly pushing the envelope to enhance, build, and deliver top-notch technology products.
As a Senior Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Employement Platform business, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. Drive significant business impact through your capabilities and contributions, and apply deep technical expertise and problem-solving methodologies to tackle a diverse array of challenges that span multiple technologies and applications.
Job responsibilities
- Lead development of complex, user-facing web applications using React + TypeScript, owning the front-end architecture and delivery approach.
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, setting technical direction, best practices, and coding standards across the organization, with a focus on Java-based, cloud-first, and API-first engineering principles.
- Partner with UX/Product to translate designs into polished experiences; influence requirements with feasibility, performance, and accessibility considerations.
- Establish and evolve front-end standards: component architecture, state management, routing, code conventions, and testing practices.
- Build using JPMC’s EXDS UI foundations: design system / component library, theming, responsive layouts, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Drive performance and quality: Core Web Vitals, bundle optimization, rendering strategies, caching, and runtime observability.
- Implement advanced UI capabilities such as rich data visualization, real-time updates, offline-friendly patterns, and robust form/workflow experiences.
- Ensure secure client-side patterns: safe auth flows, token handling guidance, secure storage, and protection against common web vulnerabilities.
- Collaborate with backend teams on API contracts (GraphQL/REST) and advocate for front-end friendly patterns (pagination, filtering, error models).
Drives adoption and governance of approved AI-assisted engineering practices across teams to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test acceleration, release readiness, incident/root-cause analysis), while establishing measurable validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of proven patterns and automation within the SDLC/TLM toolchain.
Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including approved AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation at scale.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep expertise in front-end web development, including leading projects and mentoring engineers.
Expert-level proficiency in React (hooks, component composition, context, rendering behaviour, and concurrency-related patterns).
Strong TypeScript and modern JavaScript skills, including types-as-design, generics, and strict typing strategies.
Deep experience with modern front-end tooling (Vite/Webpack, Babel/SWC, npm/pnpm/yarn), build/release pipelines, and monorepos (where applicable).
Strong CSS expertise, including responsive design, scalable architecture (CSS Modules, CSS-in-JS, utility frameworks), and theming.
Advanced testing practices using Jest/Vitest, React Testing Library, and Playwright/Cypress, with ownership of test strategy.
Solid understanding of accessibility (WCAG/ARIA), including keyboard navigation, screen readers, and both automated and manual a11y testing.
Strong experience in performance engineering (profiling, code splitting, SSR/CSR trade-offs, caching) and API integration (GraphQL/REST, schema design, pagination, caching, and client state management).
Awareness of web security (XSS/CSRF, secure auth/session patterns, dependency hygiene), front-end observability (logging, metrics, debugging), and mandatory proficiency with AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development while ensuring correctness and security.
Demonstrated experience leading effective use of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security
Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching senior engineers/leads on compliant usage patterns and controls.
- Experience with SSR/meta frameworks: Next.js / Remix and SEO considerations.
- Experience leveraging a design system (Storybook, tokens).
- Experience with micro-frontend patterns and module federation (where relevant).
- Experience with visualization and rich UI: D3, Canvas/WebGL, advanced tables/grids, animation libraries.
- Familiarity with authentication integrations (OIDC/OAuth2) and enterprise SSO constraints.
