As a Lead Software Engineer here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will play a key role in leading the architecture, development, modernization, and security of mission-critical software solutions for aerospace and industrial applications. You will lead a team of software engineers responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and high-quality software across cloud, enterprise, embedded, and avionics platforms.
In this role, you will drive the adoption of DevSecOps practices, modern software engineering methodologies, and automation strategies while ensuring compliance with aerospace certification requirements and industry standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering, systems, quality, cybersecurity, and product teams to deliver solutions that meet customer, regulatory, and business objectives.
You will report directly to the Sr. Engineering Manager and work closely with global engineering teams to establish technical direction, mentor engineers, and ensure successful execution of software development programs.
Your leadership will help accelerate digital transformation initiatives, improve development efficiency, enhance software quality, and strengthen cybersecurity across the organization.
ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive DevSecOps strategy and implementation, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, security scanning, infrastructure as code, and deployment automation.
- Lead modernization initiatives, including migration of legacy applications to cloud-native and web-based architectures.
- Define and implement secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC) practices.
- Collaborate with systems, hardware, cybersecurity, certification, and product teams to develop integrated solutions.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace standards including DO-178C, ARP4754A, and related regulatory requirements where applicable.
- Support software certification activities, including requirements traceability, verification, validation, and audit readiness.
- Establish software quality metrics, engineering best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mentor and develop engineers while providing technical leadership across multiple programs and projects.
- Drive adoption of modern software technologies, cloud platforms, and AI-assisted development capabilities where appropriate.
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
- Minimum 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Minimum 3+ years of technical leadership experience leading software teams or large software projects.
- Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
- Experience developing software for embedded systems and/or real-time operating systems (RTOS).
