We’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer, Backend to design, build, and scale the foundational systems that power FuturHealth’s digital platform. As a hands-on technical leader, you’ll architect secure, performant, and reliable backend services, mentor engineers, and drive engineering excellence across a growing team.
This is a high-impact role for a backend engineer who thrives in startup environments, cares deeply about system quality and maintainability, and is motivated by the opportunity to improve health outcomes through technology.
What You’ll Do- Lead the design and development of scalable APIs, services, and backend systems.
- Ensure security, reliability, and performance across core infrastructure.
- Collaborate with Product, Data, and Frontend teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Champion engineering best practices, CI/CD, observability, and testing standards.
- Mentor engineers, lead code reviews, and influence technical direction across projects.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HiTrust, and other security/privacy standards in backend systems.
- Experience:
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with 2+ in a technical leadership or staff-level role.
- Proven experience building and operating scalable, production-grade backend systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Node.js and/or Python; TypeScript experience a plus.
- Deep knowledge of RESTful API design, authentication, and system integrations.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), databases (PostgreSQL), caching (Redis), and CI/CD tooling.
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code, containerization (Docker), and modern DevOps practices.
- Mindset & Communication:
- Hands-on problem solver with strong debugging and performance tuning skills.
- Clear communicator who collaborates well across disciplines.
- Comfortable in ambiguity and able to balance short-term shipping with long-term quality.
- Experience in healthtech or with HIPAA/HiTrust environments.
- Background in microservices architecture or event-driven systems.
- Familiarity with observability tools (Datadog, Sentry) and serverless patterns.
The pay range for this role is $185,000 - 230,000. We offer a competitive salary package and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
