The Role
Lead end-to-end development of IoT and IIoT products, including system architecture, embedded hardware, firmware, PCB design, sensors, connectivity, edge computing, and cloud integration. Drive prototypes through mass production, validate and optimize system performance, collaborate across software, quality, operations, and external partners, and manage technical planning and risks. Apply cybersecurity, compliance, change control, and global IoT standards throughout product development.
Summary Generated by Built In
We are seeking an experience/senior engineer to drive the end to end development of innovative IoT and IIoT products. In the role, you will lead the design, build, and deployment of IoT-enabled electrical and embedded systems, taking ownership of complex assemblies from early concept through to mass production. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to solve unfamiliar problems, ensuring our solutions meet rigorous standards for performance, reliability, security and user experience.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Product Development: Lead the full product lifecycle (NPI) for new product categories, translating technical challenges into clear design requirements, creating concepts, building prototypes, and validating designs for production.
- Hardware & System Design: Define the overall system architecture and lead complex hardware development including firmware from concept to production, ensuring optimal PCB layout, sensor integration, power circuits, and communication interfaces.
- Connectivity & Integration: Ensure reliable connectivity between industrial equipment, edge devices, and cloud platforms. Implement sensing strategies, edge compute solutions, and data ingestion/storage systems while maintaining high availability
- Testing & Optimization: Conduct laboratory validation, troubleshooting, and optimization of circuits, communication protocols and system performance. Define metrics to measure success and support product decisions.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Collaborate with internal teams (software, quality, operations) and external partners to integrate smart platforms and industrial networking solutions. Provide technical planning, effort estimates and risk management.
- Compliance & Security: Apply principled engineering practices including cybersecurity considerations, change control and adherence to global IoT standards (e.g., ETSI, CISPR, Bluetooth SIG, UK PSTI)
Requirements (Minimum Qualifications)
- Degree or Master's in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years of direct experience in hardware or system design with a proven track record in embedded
- Resilient, methodical, and curious approach to design
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across internal and external teams
- Comfort working with governance constraints (auditability, security, privacy) and designing practical solutions within them
- Design experience and knowledge in the following: SoC/Processors, DDR4, Flash memory, USB, PCIe, NVMe and GbE technologies
- Strong background in wireless design and validation (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE)
- Experience with CAD tools (e.g. KiCad)
- Familiarity with industrial networking (VLANs, switches, firewalls)
- Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity principles, endpoint security and remote device management
- Experience in RF engineering and antenna design
