This is a remote position.
The RoleWe’re looking for a Staff Scientist who can spearhead our R&D efforts across material science, binder chemistry, and performance optimization of natural fiber composites. You’ll work closely with the founding team to drive innovation from lab to market — and help define the scientific DNA of the company.
This is not just a job. It’s an invitation to help build a science-first materials company from the ground up.
Lead R&D on biobased composites, with a focus on straw-based panel products
Develop, test, and optimize binders/resins (formaldehyde-free, bio-based alternatives)
Run experiments, design testing protocols, and analyze mechanical, thermal, acoustic properties
Own partnerships with labs, research institutes, and testing facilities (BIS, NABL, etc.)
Translate research into scalable pilot-line production processes
Collaborate with operations and product teams to bring innovations to market
Build and lead the science team over time
Requirements
Have 3–7 years experience in material science / chemical engineering / polymer science, ideally with a PhD or master’s degree
Have worked on natural fiber composites, bio-based binders/resins, or panel products
Are comfortable in lab + factory environments — you think in experiments, but build for the real world
Want to work in a mission-driven startup, with autonomy, responsibility, and impact
Are a problem-solver, quick learner, and love getting your hands dirty (literally)
Have published research or patents — bonus
Skills Required
- 3–7 years of experience in materials science, chemical engineering, or polymer science
- PhD or master’s degree, ideally in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
- Experience with natural fiber composites, bio-based binders or resins, or panel products
- Comfort working in both laboratory and factory environments
- Problem-solving ability, quick learning, and willingness to perform hands-on work
- Published research or patents
What We Do
Biome Sustainability Ventures develops sustainable building materials by converting agricultural waste into high-performance products. Its flagship BiomeBoard is a rice-straw particle board designed as an eco-friendly alternative to plywood and MDF. The startup focuses on scalable, circular solutions for the built environment, supporting lower-carbon interior fit-outs, exhibitions, experiential installations, and other temporary or semi-permanent applications for commercial and creative spaces.
