Position Summary
We are seeking a Lead SAP Finance Systems Architect to define and lead the end-to-end architecture for financial consolidation and reporting across our energy business. This role will translate complex accounting, consolidation, and management reporting requirements into scalable, integrated SAP finance solutions.
The architect will partner with Corporate Accounting, Consolidation, business-unit Finance, and Technology teams to establish solution designs spanning SAP S/4HANA Finance, SAP Group Reporting, and supporting data and analytics platforms. The role will provide architectural leadership across financial close, intercompany processing, consolidated reporting, and integration of SAP and non-SAP financial data.
The ideal candidate combines deep SAP Finance expertise, strong consolidation knowledge, and experience designing solutions for complex, multi-entity organizations.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise and Solution Architecture
  • Own the target-state architecture and technical roadmap for SAP finance consolidation and reporting
  • Define end-to-end solution designs across transactional finance, financial data integration, consolidation, and reporting
  • Develop architecture blueprints, integration specifications, data flows, and documented design decisions
  • Establish standards for configuration, extensibility, interfaces, security, performance, and maintainability
  • Evaluate solution options and communicate trade-offs involving business value, complexity, cost, and operational risk
  • Review delivery-team designs to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and finance requirements
Financial Consolidation and Reporting
  • Architect solutions for legal and management consolidation across multiple entities, currencies, ownership structures, and reporting hierarchies
  • Lead design for data collection, validation, currency translation, intercompany reconciliation, eliminations, and consolidation adjustments
  • Define approaches for consolidation of investments, noncontrolling interests, ownership changes, and acquisitions or disposals, as applicable
  • Design consolidated financial statements, reporting structures, and drill-through capabilities
  • Translate accounting policies and applicable reporting requirements into system designs in partnership with Corporate Accounting
  • Ensure traceability from consolidated results to source financial data and supporting adjustments
Energy-Sector Finance Requirements
  • Partner with Finance stakeholders to define reporting requirements across relevant business segments, assets, legal entities, and joint ventures
  • Design reporting structures that support analysis by business unit, geography, project, asset, and other approved management dimensions
  • Incorporate requirements for capital-intensive operations, project accounting, asset accounting, and intercompany transactions
  • Support integration requirements involving joint venture accounting, production or revenue accounting, commodity trading, and other industry platforms where applicable
  • Accommodate organizational changes, acquisitions, divestitures, and evolving reporting needs without unnecessary customization
SAP Finance and Data Integration
  • Provide architectural leadership across SAP FI/CO, the Universal Journal, SAP S/4HANA Group Reporting, and related reporting capabilities
  • Define mappings between source-system accounts, organizational structures, consolidation dimensions, and financial statement items
  • Establish integration patterns for SAP and non-SAP financial systems, including data validation, reconciliation, error handling, and monitoring
  • Guide integration with SAP Group Reporting Data Collection, SAP Intercompany Matching and Reconciliation, SAP Analytics Cloud, and enterprise data platforms, as required
  • Define data ownership, master-data governance, and controls over reporting hierarchies and mappings
Delivery and Technical Leadership
  • Lead architecture workshops and design reviews with Finance, functional consultants, developers, integration teams, and implementation partners
  • Provide oversight throughout implementation, migration, testing, deployment, and stabilization
  • Define nonfunctional requirements for performance, availability, scalability, recoverability, and supportability
  • Review test strategies covering end-to-end close, consolidation, interfaces, reconciliations, security, and performance
  • Guide migration and cutover planning, including historical data, opening balances, and comparative reporting
  • Resolve complex cross-system issues and mentor functional and technical team members
Controls, Security, and Governance
  • Embed access controls, segregation of duties, audit trails, and change-management requirements into solution designs
  • Partner with Internal Audit, Finance Controls, and Information Security to address control requirements
  • Ensure architecture documentation and operational handover materials remain current
  • Identify technical debt and recommend improvements that strengthen reliability and reduce support complexity
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 10+ years of experience delivering SAP Finance solutions, including significant experience in solution architecture or technical-functional leadership
  • 5+ years of experience architecting financial consolidation, corporate close, or enterprise financial reporting solutions
  • Strong hands-on design experience with SAP S/4HANA Finance and SAP S/4HANA Group Reporting
  • Deep understanding of SAP FI/CO, General Ledger, financial master data, parallel accounting, multicurrency processing, and intercompany accounting
  • Demonstrated expertise in consolidation processes, including currency translation, eliminations, ownership structures, and consolidated financial statements
  • Experience integrating SAP and non-SAP financial systems and defining reconciliation and data-quality controls
  • Experience delivering solutions for energy-sector organizations or similarly complex, asset-intensive businesses
  • Proven ability to lead architecture decisions across business, functional, integration, data, and security teams
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions and their business implications to senior stakeholders
