We are seeking a Lead Project Engineer (Lead PE) for our Flight Controls System team located in Phoenix, AZ (Deer Valley). You will report directly to an Engineering Manager and work out of our Phoenix (Deer Valley), Arizona location on a hybrid schedule.
In this role, the Lead PE will be responsible for the successful execution of Flight Controls development programs. Lead PE serves as the primary engineering focal point for assigned programs and is accountable for the technical, cost, schedule, and risk performance of the engineering scope of work. Working closely with Program Management, customers, and cross-functional engineering teams, the Lead PE drives program execution from proposal and planning through certification, customer delivery, and program closeout.
This role is intended for experienced Project Engineers who possess the ability to independently lead complex programs with minimal management oversight while effectively influencing customers and stakeholders across multiple organizations.
ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the successful execution of Flight Controls programs, ensuring achievement of technical, cost, schedule, quality, and customer objectives.
- Serve as the primary engineering interface to customers, Program Management, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Independently manage engineering scope, planning, execution, risks, and deliverables with minimal management oversight.
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across Systems, Software, Hardware, Safety, Certification, Manufacturing, and Quality organizations.
- Drive identification, mitigation, and resolution of technical, schedule, cost, and program risks and issues.
- Ensure compliance with company development processes, certification requirements, and program governance practices.
- Support business growth through proposal development, engineering estimates, change requests, and customer engagements.
- Mentor Project Engineers and provide leadership in the development of project management best practices within the Flight Controls organization.
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, System Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience related to flight controls or related avionics programs.
WE VALUE
- Master’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a PE.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. If you do not currently hold a PMP, you may be expected to obtain the certification through Honeywell Aerospace's sponsored PMP program.
- Demonstrated leadership and project management skills with the ability to independently drive complex programs.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with customers, program management, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams through development, integration, test, and certification activities.
- Knowledge of DAL A avionics systems development, verification, validation, and certification processes with FAA, EASA, CAAC or other civil aviation certification agencies.
- Experience integrating and testing DAL A avionics systems in laboratory, ground test, and flight test environments.
- Experience supporting proposal development, customer pursuits, and business growth initiatives.
- Passion for developing talent and driving a culture of accountability and execution excellence across engineering teams.
