Lead Product Designer

What will you work on?
As a Design Lead you will successfully design and develop products for large-scale projects and/or complex items for a segment or brand. You are highly skilled at leading category aesthetics and play patterns and operate as a role model to others. You consistently drive innovation and explore new creative methods to deliver excellence in design and value. Design Leads excel at specific design skills and support their team by leading that portion of the process.
How will you fit into the team?

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce and deliver new product lines, segments, and innovative items on time and on cost.
• Facilitates brainstorms for any brand within respective category.
• Expertly research and interpret current market and consumer trends.
• Ability to ideate, design and develop high complexity items or product segments for strategic initiatives with limited oversight.
• Lead product review meetings and create plans for technical deliverables.
• Act as an action-oriented leader driving projects and people to take calculated risks & confront difficulties despite uncertainty.
• Offer informal mentoring, impart best practices, and share knowledge of design expertise.
• Influence senior leadership and functional partners to gain necessary resources and support.
• Lead strategic initiatives around future growth and innovation, identifying key market trends, play patterns and mechanisms to provide successful longevity of brands.
• Lead prototyping and proof-of-concept builds to de-risk and test new mechanisms, key features, and/or manufacturing feasibility.
• Provide detailed design input of components and products for manufacturing.
• Be a key point of contact with Manufacturing Engineering teams (in Asia, Mexico, EU, etc.), to ensure alignment on all project details.
• Ability to travel internationally to support projects.
• Drive productivity by implementing design for manufacturing/assembly up front.
• Proactive leader and key contributor for pitches.

What are your skills and experience?

• 8+years Toy Design or consumer product development experience.
• Undergraduate degree in Industrial Design, BFA or equivalent; or 4+ years related experience or training.
• Able to handle objections effectively and evolve discussions.
• Able to plan ahead and identify strategies to keep projects on-track.
• Recognizes when issues change over time and reacts appropriately.
• Understands the strategy for Spin Master overall and for the Creative Centers at a high level.
• Describes broader considerations including aisle placement and real estate, buyer mentality, competition, and online vs brick and mortar advantages.
• Develops effective play patterns with some help from others and understanding ages & stages

• preferences and can-do guardrails.

• Able to adjust presentation to audience when required.
• Able to effectively test a prototype with the appropriate consumer and apply results to inform R&D.
• Anticipates lifecycle challenges and sets plans to mitigate.
• Understands manufacturing capabilities within own category.
• Excels in design/presentation software such as Keyshot, Adobe Creative Cloud, and PowerPoint.
