Objective of the position

As Senior/Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will oversee all phases of product development—from initial concept through to successful launch — applying a balanced approach that combines proven design standards, best practices, and your own technical expertise and critical thinking. In addition to driving project execution, you will provide leadership and mentorship to the project team, fostering technical growth and strengthening the mechanical engineering community within the organization.

In this role, you will ensure the efficient and timely development of electromechanical modules by working closely with internal teams, external partners, suppliers, and customers to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions for automotive applications.

Characterization of activities

  • Lead and coordinate the mechanical design and industrialization of automotive camera and display systems (e.g., rear-view, side-view, surround view, instrument cluster displays), ensuring timely project delivery.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with electrical, software, and optical engineering teams to guarantee seamless integration of imaging hardware.
  • Oversee creation and validation of detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings; manage tolerance analyses, DFMEA, and design reviews to meet reliability and manufacturability targets.
  • Resolve complex mechanical challenges related to thermal management, vibration, sealing (IP rating), and alignment precision, guiding the team toward innovative solutions.
  • Manage supplier and customer interactions, including component development, tooling, validation, and compliance with automotive quality standards (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO 26262).
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior and offshore engineers, facilitate technical reviews, and ensure alignment across stakeholders for successful project outcomes.

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor’s or Master’s) or equivalent proven expertise.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive mechanical design, including leading projects from concept to integration.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as Siemens NX, Creo, CATIA, or Inventor, with strong knowledge of materials, thermal management, sealing, and mounting systems.
  • Familiarity with automotive standards and validation procedures for electronic modules, including environmental and durability testing.
  • Experience with mechatronic product development, preferably in ADAS systems, digital mirrors, camera/monitor hardware, and mass production processes.
  • Understanding advanced analysis and integration requirements, such as thermal simulation (CFD), mechanical FEA, optical alignment, and automotive communication protocols (LVDS, Ethernet, CAN).

What we offer

  • Salary based on knowledge and experience.
  • Full-time employment of 40 hours per week.
  • 8% holiday allowance.
  • Travel allowance home-work: 23ct per kilometer one way up to a maximum of 50 km
  • CAO: Metalektro HP
  • Retirement: PME (Pensioenfonds Metalektro).
  • WIA: WIA floor, WGA gap and WGA gap additional insurances in accordance with the stipulated provisions.
  • PAWW: Compulsory supplementary insurance when the statutory unemployment WW or WGA benefit expires.
  • Holiday days: 27 days on an annual basis (full-time).
  • ATV: 13 days on an annual basis (full-time)
