Target’s Enterprise Token Vault Exchange (TVX) platform helps protect sensitive payment and identity data by enabling secure tokenization, token storage, and controlled exchange of tokens across enterprise services. We build high-throughput, resilient services with strong security controls and compliance standards to support critical business workflows.
What you’ll do
Lead the design and development of Java/Spring Boot microservices that enable tokenization, secure storage, and exchange of payment and PII data across the enterprise.
- Build and enforce secure-by-default patterns using Spring Security (authN/authZ, service-to-service security, API security).
- Collaborate with architects, security, and product to translate platform requirements into scalable solutions.
- Drive engineering excellence: code quality, automation, observability, reliability, and performance tuning.
- Partner with platform and SRE teams to improve deployment practices and operational readiness.
- Participate in technical mentorship, design reviews, and setting engineering standards for the team.
Required qualifications
Strong hands-on experience building backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
Proven experience implementing security controls using Spring Security.
Experience designing and operating production services (scalability, resiliency, monitoring, incident response).
- Working knowledge of SQL and ability to write basic queries for troubleshooting and analysis.
- Strong engineering fundamentals: OOP, data structures, REST APIs, testing strategy, clean code, and debugging.
Preferred qualifications
- General understanding of certificates / PKI concepts (TLS, keystores/truststores, certificate rotation).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, ideally Jenkins (and/or Vela).
- Strong Linux expertise, preferably Ubuntu (process/network debugging, logs, performance basics).
- Familiarity with PCI compliance environments and secure engineering practices.
- Experience with Python for automation, tooling, or scripting.
- Experience with configuration/orchestration tooling such as Ansible / Chef and “config orchestration pipelines”.
What success looks like
- Secure, reliable services shipped with strong test coverage and operational maturity.
- Reduced operational toil through automation and improved CI/CD practices.
- Clear technical direction, mentorship, and consistent delivery across the team.
- Strong partnership with security and compliance stakeholders in a regulated environment.
