The Role
Lead the global technical direction for electrical engineering in industrial DAC plant projects. Define specifications and design philosophies, manage contractor submissions, improve system reliability, coordinate cross-functional designs, supervise engineers, and support estimating, construction, commissioning, and startup. Apply cold- and hot-weather design, constructability, safety, and operability principles while maintaining technical documentation. The role requires extensive process-plant experience, leadership, full-cycle project delivery, and travel up to 40%.
Summary Generated by Built In
  • Technical Direction: You define and maintain the technical direction for the Electrical Department.  You lead the development of fit-for-purpose EIC specifications, design philosophies, and basis of design for execution Globally. You ensure owner requirements are clearly defined, documented, and communicated to contractors, and validate design assumptions against operability and safety, and ensure compliance with local and regional codes and regulations.

  • Contractor management: You review and approve contractor submissions for electrical systems and power distribution, enforce owner requirements, provide technical clarifications, and ensure adherence to schedule, quality, safety, and operability. You set clear expectations for execution methods, field quality controls, and turnover documentation needed for safe operation and maintenance.

  • System Reliability & Innovation: You lead initiatives to improve reliability and performance of Electrical systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement preventive measures. You evaluate and introduce emerging technologies such as energy efficiency solutions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: You act as the primary Electrical interface with process, instrumentation and controls, mechanical, and project management teams to ensure integrated designs. You identify and mitigate Electrical risks during design and operation phases and support project teams with scope, cost, and schedule estimates.

  • Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement: You supervise and coach junior team members, provide guidance on technical challenges, and drive lessons-learned sessions to maintain a strong knowledge base and promote continuous improvement.  You maintain thorough records of technical decisions, design bases, vendor information, and lessons learned for future operational use.

  • Cold-Weather and Constructability: As our next DAC plant could be in a cold or hot weather environment, you incorporate climate conditions into the Electrical design and execution planning (extreme heat, freeze protection, winterization, insulation/heat tracing philosophy, cold start/commissioning constraints). You ensure the design is constructable and able to operate and be maintained through cold or hot conditions, including consideration of temporary works, for instance winter work sequencing, and interface constraints with cold-weather activities.

  • Professional Experience: You have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent and have at least 10 years of experience in process plants various climates as an Electrical Engineer.  You have experience leading teams.

  • Project Experience: You have hands-on involvement in at least one full-cycle project in the mining, water treatment, oil and gas or other comparable industries, covering all phases from FEED and detailed design to construction, commissioning and start-up; preferably in remote/seasonally constrained execution environments.  You have expertise in low and medium voltage electrical systems, industrial instrumentation, and control systems.

  • Cold-Weather Industrial Plant Experience: You have hands-on experience working with industrial plants in cold-weather environments (e.g. Canada, Nordic countries, or similar climates) and understand the operational, maintenance, and safety challenges associated with extreme weather conditions.

  • Communication & Collaboration: You demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and can liaise with diverse stakeholders, including third-party vendors in IP-sensitive collaborations.

  • Working Style: You are precise, adaptable, and reliable, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach. You are comfortable driving decisions and owning them in the office and under field constraints, including winter productivity and schedule risk.  You are highly organized, able to plan and prioritize work for yourself and others, and comfortable working in fast-paced environments.

  • Language Skills and Travel: You are fluent in English and ready to travel up to 40% of your time (including extended site presence during peak design, engineering, construction and commissioning periods).
