What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a Lead Product Designer to drive our design system vision, strategy, and roadmap. You'll collaborate with leadership, developers, and designers on a broad range of design challenges as we strive to create user-friendly experiences for our audience of product builders. This position is also responsible for designing, building, and documenting our responsive UI components and interaction patterns, with a focus on accessibility, inclusion, and raising the design bar.
As a Lead, you should have experience contributing to decision-making, directing broader strategy, and observing when narrower efforts conflict with or distract from broader goals. We will rely on you as an advocate to communicate and educate our team on best practices, leading by example with your system thinking, expertise, and craft skills.
What you’ll be working on
- Design and maintain the components, UI patterns, and documentation for our design system and component library
- Advocate and push for design standards and quality in design reviews and visual QA to ensure adherence to design guidelines and code quality
- Conduct workshops and training sessions to familiarize team members with the design system’s components and best practices
- Provide design leadership and guidance to teams around using shared patterns, and identifying opportunities to create new patterns and components within their workstreams
- Identify and nurture team growth and culture, identifying opportunities for team members to drive and lead system aspects
- Identify, prioritize, and monitor tasks, progress of designs, development, and documentation across team members
- Defines overlaps and dependencies, driving solutions while weighing tradeoffs and UX impact
- Regularly update stakeholders on the state of the design system, progress on milestones, and how it impacts the organization
- Maintain and improve a contribution model to streamline the process of multiple autonomous product teams building components for one-off use cases, moving to systematized items
We’d love to hear from people with
- 12+ yrs experience working in design with at least 5+ yrs focused on design systems
- Expert hands-on experience building Figma UI Kit libraries using the latest functionalities
- An Experienced designer familiar with visual design, interaction design, and information architecture (product management and front-end development experience a bonus)
- A Track record of hands-on experience leading, creating, and managing impactful design systems, including documentation and processes
- A Portfolio that highlights design systems you have created or largely contributed to
- Experienced on creating strategic vision, balancing macro and micro-perspectives while designing for the big picture
- Familiar with research best practices, methodologies, and working with data to measure and inform decisions
- Reliable advocate who consistently fulfills commitments, aligns decisions with organizational goals, and tackles challenges with resilience and determination
- Expert mentor on Figma and design system documentation tools (ZeroHeight, Storybook)
- Familiar with front-end development languages (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) and frameworks (React)
- Familiar with version control systems like Git and visual QA tools (Chromatic)
- Proven experience designing and launching for both desktop and mobile environments
