How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Lead and provide guidance to a team of passionate and motivated engineers to design, develop, test and certify landing gear for BETA’s cutting edge aircraft designs in a high paced environment. The ideal candidate will bring direct landing gear design and certification experience to the table to develop a simple yet robust landing gear solution that has a clear path to FAA certification
- Work with the FAA and BETA’s Certification team to navigate technical issues in the certification and production of the landing gear system for Part 23/27 aircraft
- Conduct structural analysis, shock strut design, and system integration for electric aircraft platforms Certification & Compliance
- Collaborate with BETA’s supply chain team and qualified suppliers to optimize manufacturability and cost-effectiveness
- Support manufacturing in the production of the landing gear system, taking a hands-on approach to tackling any issues found during assembly and installation
- Work with Program Management to control the cost of the design, working towards Design to Cost targets using trade studies, and maximize efficiencies of labor through proper coordination and allocation of engineering resources
- Understand how to flow down system requirements into the design of the landing gear and provide traceability for verification and validation
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in landing gear design
- Direct experience leading FAA Part 23/27 certification projects from design through certification, including DER interaction and compliance documentation
- 10 years experience with 3D CAD software, preferably Catia
- BS in mechanical engineering, MS preferred
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
- Experience in the design, development, test, and certification of landing gear for Part 23 and/or 27 aircraft
- Hydraulic systems expertise, particularly shock strut fluid dynamics and oleo-pneumatic systems
- Experience leading a cross-functional engineering team from system conceptualization to productionization
- Experience decomposing and tracing system requirements
- Experience designing and developing test equipment for qualification and acceptance testing
- Ability to effectively communicate status and issues to leadership, and find creative ways to problem-solve challenging issues
- Experience in Design to Cost development programs
- Experience with CAD, preferably Catia
- Experience with Polarion and Plex preferred

What We Do
BETA Technologies is creating an electric transportation ecosystem that’s safe, reliable and sustainable. A relentlessly focused team is building an extensive charging infrastructure and ALIA, the world’s most technologically advanced electric vertical aircraft (EVA). BETA’s platform and products are strikingly simple. Prioritization of safety and a pragmatic approach to certification drive elegant redundancy, appropriate diversity of implementation and simplicity of control. ALIA’s fixed-pitch propellers and centrally located batteries make it an inherently stable aircraft that is safe to fly and easy to maneuver.
