DBA Lead:
Roles and Responsibilities:
Database Design and Architecture:
● Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance database solutions using Azure services like PostgreSQL, Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB etc.
● Create data models and schemas tailored for cloud-based apps.
● Proficiency in database schema design, normalization, and data modelling techniques.
Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting :
· Analyze database queries using Query Store and Performance Insights.
· Optimize indexes, partitions, and caching strategies.
· In-depth knowledge of query optimization, caching ,indexing, Partitions strategies,
· performance monitoring tools.
· Ability to develop and implement long-term database strategies that align with the organization’s goals.
· Expertise in conducting thorough investigations to determine the root cause of recurring problems and preventing future occurrences
Automation and Monitoring:
● Set up Azure Monitor/Grafana, Log Analytics, and Alerts to track database performance and failures.
● Automate backups, scaling, and maintenance tasks
● Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation of routine database tasks.
Security and Compliance:
● Familiarity with database security measures, including encryption, authentication, and role-based access control.
● Implement Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Always Encrypted, and Row-Level Security.
● Ensure databases comply with GDPR, HIPAA, etc., using Azure Policy and Microsoft Defender for Cloud.
High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR):
● Strong understanding of backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and high-availability (HA) solutions.
● Design geo-replication strategies and failover groups.
● Plan RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) using Azure Site Recovery.
Cost Optimization:
● Analyze and suggest right-sizing of databases using Azure Cost Management + Billing.
● Understanding of budget constraints and cost management, especially in cloud environments.
Collaboration and Mentorship:
● Work closely with application developers to fine-tune DB interactions.
● Mentor junior DBAs and DevOps teams about Azure’s database services.
Skills Required
- Experience with Azure database services
- Proficient in SQL and data modeling
- Experience in database performance tuning
- Knowledge of automation scripting languages
- Experience with security compliance standards
