National Grid is hiring a Lead Data Analyst, Management Data Analysis for Massachusetts This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations

Job Purpose

National Grid is committed to Digital Transformation and is building a best-in-class utility of the future. The NE Electric Systems & Data team is responsible for delivering solutions which support a data-driven organization and advance National Grid toward our digital future.

The core function of this role is to help the organization utilize data to facilitate sound investment and operational decisions that deliver safe, reliable, clean and affordable electric power to our customers.

This analyst will work closely with business teams in Asset Strategy, Asset Management and Engineering, as well as IT, digital product and platform teams (e.g. Snowflake, GIS). This analyst will bring the capability to create data insights from data sets, reports and dashboards; conduct analyses independently and in partnership with business teams; and help close quality gaps by defining logic and requirements that meet our business needs. Tasks will include data mapping, process mapping, options analysis, and data change management to ensure the reliability and safety of the National Grid's information.

This role will also participate in promoting and shaping our overall data vision. The successful candidate will champion sound data practices driven by industry standards; build the overall analytical capability of the organization by providing guidance around new tools and data aptitudes; and help foster adoption of a shared Data Strategy across the enterprise.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support National Grid's data transformation activities, this includes but not limited to:
  • Conducting rigorous analysis of data quality and analytics use cases, collaborating with subject matter experts and performing comprehensive technical evaluations
  • Constructing reports and data visualizations which support business processes
  • Identifying, evaluating, presenting & recommending options to all levels of leadership (along with effort/impact/risk of each)
  • Working cross functionally to successfully deliver chosen options
  • Develop and apply domain knowledge, and work as a fully engaged member of the NE Data & Systems team
  • Construct business cases, including value projections and detailed investment estimates; ensure these are aligned with organizational priorities
  • Develop change management and roll-out plans
  • Provide data guidance and support to digital projects and initiatives
  • Support preparation of materials for communications, training & key stakeholder readouts
  • Lead a team that is accountable for Processes and behaviors in place to manage the external and internal data quality.
  • Model datasets and analyze key themes from a wide range of data sources to validate data, prioritize risk, and identify how different scenarios may impact upon the business, making recommendations based on the results of the analyses.
  • Analyze risk, financial, and operational data and translate objectives into the capital budget and ten-year plan to minimize operational risk and target investments with the greatest projected benefit in line with corporate strategy and other long-term goals.
  • Work with Resource Planning to analyze planned versus actual work to enable understanding of situations that lead to variances and help stakeholders work through strategies to minimize these situations.
  • Produce effective reports for use by senior leaders to help them understand the multi-faceted impact of planned work and make recommendations.
  • Understand and apply operative Regulatory agreements and support regulatory filings to various business models.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline is preferred (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) with 4 years of related experience. An equivalent level of practical prior education/experience will be considered. Required qualifications include:
  • Strategic self-starter with excellent computer & data set skills and an advocate for data analytics value across business and to diverse audiences
  • Experience with complex data flows and relationship to business process
  • Self-aware individual who can effectively manage stakeholders and build relationships across all levels and functions
  • Effective communicator able to communicate at all levels within the organization
  • Experience implementing change within an organization
  • The ideal qualified candidates will also have some or all the following:
  • Experience conducting structured business analysis and generating well-defined requirements
  • Electric utility process & systems experience - (i.e. GIS, Work Management)
  • Data Management Tools (Snowflake, Informatica Data Quality & Axon)
  • Programming or Logical Rule Based Progressions (i.e., IFTTT)
  • Bachelor's Degree or minimum of 5 years' experience in a professional finance, business or engineering field or equivalent experience

Salary - $116,000 - $136,000

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
