We value flexibility and have adopted a hybrid work model whereby employees use a combination of working remotely 2 days a week and in the office for 3 days in Toronto’s Financial District.

Role Purpose

Reporting to the VP, Technology & Application Development, the Lead CRM Developer guides the technology that powers the CAO's digital services, the majority of which is built on Microsoft Dynamics 365. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical direction and solution architecture with day-to-day development. Working closely with the IT team and business stakeholders, the Lead CRM Developer designs reliable, secure, and maintainable solutions, leads their delivery from discovery through deployment, and mentors a cross-functional team while championing engineering and security best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Development and Operational

  • Project Leadership:Lead CRM projects from start to finish, including discovery, development, automated testing and deployment phases.
  • Technical Expertise:Provide hands-on development expertise in Dynamics 365 CRM, leveraging extensive platform knowledge.
  • Mentorship:Mentor and guide intermediate developers, fostering their growth and development within the team.
  • Impediment Resolution:Identify and resolve impediments that may hinder project progress or team productivity.
  • Coding Standards:Drive the adoption of clean coding practices and maintain high code quality standards across the team.
  • Testing Automation :Increase testing automation coverage to ensure the reliability and stability of the CRM system.
  • CI/CD Management:Implement and manage continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to streamline development and deployment processes.
  • Technical Debt Management:Proactively manage technical debt, keeping it below 20% at all times through refactoring and re-engineering efforts.
  • Collaboration:Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, quality assurance engineers, and other stakeholders, to deliver high-quality CRM solutions.
  • Agile Practices:Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Documentation:Implement and maintain industry standard documentation practices to ensure clear, concise, and accessible documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Configuration and Customization:Configure and customize the Dynamics CRM system to meet CAO’s business needs, advanced configurations, and custom development (Logic Apps, Power Automated and Plugins).
  • Integration:Integrate Dynamics 365 solutions with third-party or in-house built on-prem and cloud applications.
  • Automation:Automate business processes and intelligence using Power Platform tools (Power Automate, Power BI, PowerApps).
  • Azure Services:Utilize Microsoft Azure services (Function Apps, Web Apps, Service Bus, Logic Apps) to build efficient solutions and integrations.
  • Flexibility:Work comfortably with both technical and business teams on a wide variety of projects and initiatives.
  • Implementation:Work with the Agile implementation team to accurately forecast the timing and efforts of work following modern lean frameworks.
  • Reporting:Provide timely reports on project status and any unforeseen issues to management and business stakeholders.
  • Troubleshooting:Troubleshoot problems and fix bugs promptly.
  • Continuous Improvement:Analyze and recommend ways to improve and modernize existing solutions, systems, and processes.
  • Learning:Continuously learn, enhance, and apply knowledge in the face of a changing technology landscape.

Strategy & Planning

  • Documentation:Create lean documentation, including system architecture, configuration guides, presentations, and other necessary documents.
  • Solution Architecture:Define, discuss, and document solution, application, and data architectures. Understand, diagnose, and recommend solutions for specific functional and technical challenges.
  • Emerging Technologies & AI: Research emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI, machine learning, and intelligent automation, to support system development efforts. Evaluate, recommend, and implement AI-powered solutions that improve productivity, cost-effectiveness, flexibility, security, and user experience.
  • Enhancements:Recommend additional solutions or enhancements to improve overall functionality.
  • Problem-solving:Research complex problems, find optimal solutions, and implement them following best practices.
  • Best Practices:Advice on best practices for Dynamics 365, development, or integration processes.
  • Deployment and Configuration:Perform the deployment, integration, and initial configuration of developed solutions and enhancements, following standard best operating procedures and CAO’s specific administrative, operational, and security documents.
  • Strategic Implementation:Implement strategic goals and tactical plans for managing, maintaining, and optimizing corporate systems and software.

Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Dynamics 365 CRM development.
    • Strong proficiency in C#, JavaScript, and other relevant programming languages.
    • Deep understanding of Dynamics 365 CRM architecture, customization, and extensibility.
    • Extensive experience in refactoring and re-engineering complex CRM systems.
    • Proven track record of leading successful CRM projects from start to finish.
    • Experience with DevOps practices, including version control (e.g., Git), continuous integration, and continuous deployment.
    • Familiarity with automation tools and techniques for testing and deployment.
    • Knowledge of API development and integration with external systems.
    • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
    • Ability to mentor and guide junior and intermediate developers.
    • Proficiency in developing workflows and plugins to automate processes.
    • Experience working within an Agile Software Development Process
    • Proficient in developing, customizing, and integrating Microsoft Dynamics CRM, including the advanced configuration of out-of-the-box functionalities, deploying CRM organizations, and creating custom CRM entities.
    • Knowledge and ability to create user interfaces that are compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)

Skills Required
