Lead Content Editor

Yuppiechef is looking for a creative and disciplined lead content editor to guide its online copy and content creation. You’ll help set the benchmark for what makes a great online experience and guide your team to meet it, plus personally craft copy that drives compelling marketing campaigns.

The role reports into the Creative Lead, has three direct reports, and is based from our offices in Westlake, Cape Town.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Optimising how our systems are used to create an easy, inspiring and informative shopping experience, plus work with our Tech team to brief in further improvements to those tools
• Maximising your team’s productivity in creating new product listings that drive conversions 
• Crafting and documenting the Yuppiechef brand voice, and creating resources and processes to make it reproducible
• Being a cross-team resource for insight on how to improve range navigation and shopping experience online — especially with the Buying, Design, Photography and Marketing teams, in optimising product visibility and understanding, and bringing new campaigns to life
• Supporting and managing the copy team, leading by example to uphold excellence, mentoring team members, facilitating forums for retrospection and continual improvement and actively resolving team blockers
• Allocating copy jobs to copy team members and making sure the necessary briefing detail is there for the copywriter to execute high-quality work on time
• Workshopping and guiding written content with the copy team throughout the creative process to facilitate feedback from the broader team
• Fostering team culture, including celebratory initiatives, and shouldering responsibilities such as hiring, portfolio reviews, and managing various HR processes

Attributes we’re looking for:

• Excellent copywriting, communication and research skills
• Analytical skills and strategic ability, a passion for Yuppiechef's products and a drive to sell these effectively to customers through high-quality content
• Excellent time management (an ability to not only manage their own time and deliverables, but that of their peers as it relates to project management)
• Strong technical competence in learning new systems and a high level of comfortability with digital tools and software
• An understanding of SEO drivers and roadblocks
• Positivity, flexibility, helpfulness, and a continuous openness to learning, mentoring and improvement

Qualifications and experience

• Relevant qualification in journalism, writing & editing, copywriting or equivalent 
• 5+ years experience writing copy professionally — e.g. working for a newspaper, magazine, technical writing, online or other publication with a high readership
• 5+ years working for another e-commerce retailer in a similar role would be advantageous
• 1+ years’ managerial experience, or experience in creative/advertising copywriting would be advantageous
