Company Overview:

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

We are expanding our Software Engineering team! As a Hardware Test Automation Engineer, you will have a key role in ensuring the proper testing of our avionics components (box ATP/QTP), as well as contributing to the testing of the sub-systems and launch vehicle through HITL. This will include the development of a test infrastructure for avionics hardware testing, including test automation, Vehicle and subsystem HITL DAQ software, and automated data analysis tools for anomaly detection and evaluating pass/fail criteria. These developments will also be used for higher level assemblies across our organization.  This role will be critical to achieving Terran R’s first launch and growing our production capabilities to quickly scale our launch cadence.

About the Role:

  • Gather requirements and user stories from partner teams and stakeholders. Distill feedback into system requirements and refine project roadmaps.
  • Design and develop a test automation framework in Python to support Avionics development, design verification, and production testing.
  • Write automated test software to monitor and control test equipment data acquisition systems, and flight hardware.
  • Write low latency, high throughput command and monitoring software for hardware-in-the-loop (HITL, HIL) testbeds.
  • Troubleshoot test and flight hardware issues in collaboration with partner teams. Help drive root cause investigations and perform data review to identify anomalies.
  • Work with data infrastructure teams to ensure reliable collection of test data including post processing, scaling, and filtering.
  • Develop documentation, sample implementations, and training material for Hardware engineers, technicians, and system engineers writing functional test definitions and executing automated tests.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s in computer science or related technical field and 5+ years relevant experience in software development.
  • 1+ Years of experience leading a team of multiple engineers or multiple examples of significant mentorship, coaching, and project management

  • Experience building test or industrial automation applications in aerospace, automotive, medical, or other high reliability environments.
  • Significant knowledge with multiple communication interfaces such as TCP, UDP,
    Serial, and VISA
  • Experience writing drivers for, and automating test equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, electronic loads, signal generators, and RF equipment
  • Experience with python package management tools like Poetry
  • Experience with high power and high voltage electrical systems and ensuring system safety
