About AI Core:
AI Core is a horizontal applied AI group, established in July 2024 with the acquisition of Hyperplane. Our goal is to advance Nubank’s progress toward becoming an AI-first bank by leveraging Nubank’s first-party data to power better decision-making and financial experiences. Our research areas include User Behavior Modeling, Causal Modeling, Recommendation Systems, and Gen AI/Agents. Our initial effort is to deploy large-scale transaction-based Foundation Models across Nubank’s decision engines to drive business impact.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Lead Applied Scientist to lead our efforts in scaling the number of models deployed to production using our AI Platform over the next year. Furthermore, we plan to expand our modeling efforts beyond predictive, offline, batch models to use cases such as real-time models and Generative models. The ideal candidate will have several years of experience in ML Ops and Applied ML Research and will lead the vision for how our AI Platform can soon support dozens of models in production.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a vision for how to enable our AI Platform to support dozens of models in production.
- Oversee model deployment, monitoring, versioning, and lifecycle management.
- Work closely with partner teams (Platform, Infra, Data) to ensure the platform empowers ML Engineers across Nubank.
- Collaborate with the AI Research team to improve research efficiency and effectively deploy findings to customer models.
- Undertake new AI Research projects, utilizing a deep understanding of model deployment constraints and opportunities.
- Lead a team as the area expert
Requirements:
- Education: Undergraduate/Master’s in a top university or PhD.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience on an applied AI/ML team with experience delivering models to production.
- Industry/Segment and Area Knowledge: MLOps and Applied ML across a variety of use cases (fraud, risk, recommendations, targeting, etc)
- Technical Skills: Deep Learning, model deployment, real-time models, experimentation, and A/B testing.
- Language: English; Portuguese/Spanish is a plus but definitely not required. We offer language services for individuals interested in learning!

- Experience in a leading edge AI Research organization exploring never developed Transformer, MTL, MLM, DCNv2, NTP solutions
