This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Defense Production Facility (Concord, North Carolina) on a full-time basis (shift is four 10's, Monday - Thursday). The role may occasionally require off shift or weekend coverage to support operations and critical investigations.

GM Defense (GMD) continues a 100-year legacy of designing, validating, and manufacturing vehicles and equipment in support of defense and other government customers. Within GM Defense, the recently created Autonomous Driving and Robotics group is charged with adapting, integrating, and enhancing GM's automated driving capabilities to the needs of GM Defense customers.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Become familiar with the new Product / Parts and Assembly Processes that will be used to build vehicles.
- Function as part of the Launch Team, Working easel board issues, Issuing DIT's (Defense Issue Tracking) and Leading all quality issues through the Diamond 1-4 assessment for Launch related builds and GCA issues
- Problem solve and validate utilizing Teamcenter
- Participate in Diamonds 5-7 tracking Launch issues to resolution
- Support Plant Launch Team problem solving, identifying error proofing opportunities and developing Product Quality Standards
- Write Launch related SPPSs
- Critically review design for manufacturing robustness and issue DITs as needed to drive change
- Visit local production suppliers to review key process control plans and gaging strategies to prevent issues Commonly missed through launch process.
- Participate in DIT and PDT meetings. Filter and support escalation of issues to Engineering
- Participate and report for Launch Quality in MQRR, PQRR and Launch Wall.
- Support Launch team in developing standardized work (Atlas SQS screens/JES)
- Participate in the Change Management Process for the assembly plant.
- Support repair, rework and containment activities for identified spills and B&H yard sweeps. Provide standardized work, PQS, and IRC methods.
- Participate in High Risk Supplier phone calls
- Support APQP and Supplier Readiness including PPAP (Understand and support SQE on specified commodities / understand status of assigned commodities).
- Support quality function for Launch related TWOs
- Ensure compliance with program timing, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Monitor launch progress and escalate critical issues to leadership with clear communication and data-driven
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Minimum 5 years of experience as Quality Engineer, Process Engineer or Reliability Engineer or related engineering profession.
- Experience with launch and/or manufacturing environments, with a focus on quality engineering.
- Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
What Will Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualification)
- Experience in multiple commodity quality or engineering experience
- Familiar with 7-diamond process
- Teamcenter utilization experience
- GVDP experience or knowledge
- 3D scanning experience
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex, cross-functional deliverables.
- Detail-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving and data analysis capabilities.
