Position Summary
This role oversees high-complexity testing operations across Chemistry, Hematology, and Molecular Microbiology disciplines within a CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited laboratory environment. This role provides technical and administrative leadership, manages laboratory staff, coordinates scheduling, and ensures ongoing training and competency. The Technical Supervisor maintains quality assurance programs, enforces safety protocols, and supports continuous improvement through instrument oversight, test validation, and collaboration with clinical teams.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution required.
  • Must meet CLIA/CAP qualifications for Technical Supervisor in high-complexity testing applicable to the laboratory specialties performed.
  • Minimum experience must include high-complexity clinical laboratory testing experience in Chemistry, Hematology, and Molecular Microbiology/Molecular Pathology.
  • Molecular/PCR testing oversight experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of laboratory leadership or supervisory experience required.
  • MLS(ASCP) or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and high-complexity laboratory regulatory standards required.
  • Experience with laboratory validations, quality assurance, proficiency testing, competency programs, and inspection readiness preferred.
  • Experience with Orchard Harvest Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred.
Essential Job Duties
  • Supervise daily operations of the clinical laboratory to ensure timely and accurate results.
  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and performance evaluations for laboratory staff.
  • Ensure adherence to CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and all state and federal agencies.
  • Maintain and monitor quality control and quality assurance programs, including oversight of proficiency testing.
  • Coordinate and document staff training and competency assessments.
  • Manage scheduling, workflow, and staffing levels to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Oversee instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting in collaboration with vendors.
  • Oversee test validation, verification, and implementation of new assays or platforms.
  • Ensure proper use and integration of the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Maintain inventory and ordering of reagents, supplies, and equipment
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and the development of policies and procedures.
  • Lead or support quality improvement initiatives and process optimization projects.
  • Assist with inventory management and restocking of lab supplies.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

  • Physical demands: varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching. Frequent standing and working for extended periods of time. Periodic need to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds. Some stress related to ensuring accuracy and safety of operation.
  • Work environment: combination of laboratory and office setting. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazard’s, toxic substances, and other conditions common in laboratory environment.

Skills Required
