The Lab Assistant assists the Medical Technologists with the daily operations of the laboratory. Responsibilities include but are not be limited to:
- Receiving specimens for processing and log into the system.
- Interacting with the Client Services Department as required to ensure correct sample information.
- Helping prepare the specimen and setting up supplies as needed for processing.
- Helping maintain inventory.
- Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining the receiving area and equipment as well as collect, sterilize and wash equipment and supplies from the lab.
- Safely handling biohazard waste for disposal.
- Preparing samples to be sent out for reference testing as required.
- Assisting with maintenance of the record storage system.
- Working on special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or Associate's degree with equivalent work experience
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the laboratory field
