OVERVIEW OF POSITION
The Lab Assistant is a part-time non-exempt position reporting to the Science Department Chair. The Lab Assistant supports the high school science faculty by preparing and maintaining laboratory materials, equipment, and supplies. This role ensures a safe and organized lab environment that promotes effective teaching and hands-on learning. This position is expected to be on campus during the school year Monday through Friday 7:30am-12:30pm.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inventory chemicals and lab supplies.
- Set up labs at the direction of classroom teachers.
- Preparing solutions for labs.
- Clean up labs upon completion.
- Handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals.
- Make suggestions for ordering chemicals and lab supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of items for teachers.
- Coordinate maintenance of laboratory equipment and the lab (service or replace).
Qualifications
- Degree or some college coursework in science.
- Lab safety certification.
- Prior experience in a science laboratory or educational setting preferred.
- Familiarity with standard laboratory safety procedures.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
- Proficiency in technology.
- Ability to lift, carry, push and pull equipment.
- High-level of familiarity and competence across cultures and multiple perspectives.
