JOB OBJECTIVE
The Applied Media Lab Assistant supports faculty and students within the Applied Media program by maintaining the college's laboratories and workshops. The incumbent's scope of work includes the installation, demonstration, maintenance and trouble-shooting of technical equipment and facilities. This is a hands-on role which will have the lab instructor working closely with faculty and students with the laboratory. The Applied Media lab assistant may also provide audio visual support and oversee the AV control room at college events.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Higher Diploma and 3 years relevant experience
- Preferred Bachelor Degree with 2 years of relevant experience
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma holders should have a minimum 3 year of relevant hands-on experience in broadcasting,
- media production, or an education facility focused on production. Bachelor holders are required to
- have 2 years of similar experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of broadcasting networks and previous experience in AV areas
- Experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting audio visual and post-production systems and
- equipment
- Practical workshop skills as evident by knowledge of technical instruments, software, workshop tools
- and other technical equipment
- Experience in the acquisition and maintenance of standard Applied Media equipment and tools
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory health and safety protocol
- A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the workplace
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with
- people at all levels of the organization
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment and to cope with
- pressure in a positive manner while working to deadlines within a busy and demanding environment
- A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to develop and
- improve new and current skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization
- Previous teaching assistant experience is desirable
LANGUAGE
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides assistance to Applied Media Faculty during workshop and laboratory sessions
- Assists in the development and maintenance of teaching materials
- Demonstrates the use of machines, tools and equipment within the lab
- Supports faculty and students in the design, planning and execution of student projects as required
- Receives, installs and maintains lab equipment and supplies
- Maintains a schedule of preventative maintenance for all equipment and keeps adequate manuals and
- maintenance logs for equipment and parts
- Controls the distribution of consumable materials and ensures adequate inventory levels for supplies
- within the lab
- Maintains systems and procedures to track borrowed equipment and tools
- Provides AV support at college events as required
- Observes and reinforces safety and housekeeping procedures and protocol within the lab
- Contributes to the development of the HCT by observing and implementing College and system-wide
- policies and procedures, and by participating in extra-curricular activities and community events
- Travels to other HCT colleges to attend meetings, workshops and conferences as required
- Develops an awareness of and respect for the customs and cultures of HCT students and employees
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Skills Required
