The Satcom Specialist is responsible for the design, integration, configuration, troubleshooting, and support of satellite communication systems across maritime, offshore, and enterprise environments. The role involves working with VSAT, Fleet Xpress, Iridium, Thuraya, Starlink, OneWeb, Inmarsat, Citadel, Isatphone, KVH, Intellian and related RF/IT infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure communication links for critical operations.
This position requires a strong background in RF systems, satellite communication protocols, IP networking, firewalls, CCTV/IT systems, and experience in both on-site deployments and remote technical support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Level 1 and Level 2 technical support for VSAT, L-band, and LEO/MEO-based satcom services.
- Monitor network and satellite terminal health.
- Assist clients remotely in troubleshooting connectivity issues, modem reboots, antenna alignment, and configuration.
- Escalate complex issues to OEMs or Level 3 support and follow through until resolution.
- Perform remote configuration of routers, modems, firewalls, and WAN optimization devices (e.g., idirect, Peplink, Cisco, Fortinet).
- Analyze signal strength, bandwidth usage, latency, and packet loss for performance optimization.
- Support onboard teams during installations, commissioning, or maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate ticket documentation, escalation notes, and service logs using service desk tools (e.g., Zendesk, Jira, Freshdesk).
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support and service continuity.
- Coordinate with teleport/NOC teams and satellite providers for service provisioning, beam switching, or fault isolation.
- Degree/Diploma in Electronics, Telecommunications, IT, or Marine Engineering.
- 2–7 years of experience in satellite communication technical support or NOC operations.
- Strong understanding of VSAT systems (KVH, Hughes, Viasat) and Fleet Xpress environments.
- Experience with Starlink, OneWeb, or other LEO/MEO terminals is a plus.
- Good working knowledge of IP networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, NAT, VLANs) and network security.
- Familiarity with Linux CLI, remote access (SSH, RDP, TeamViewer), and diagnostic utilities (ping, traceroute, Wireshark).
- Prior experience in ticketing systems, technical documentation, and SLA-based environments.
