About Food4Education
Food4Education is an award-winning, African-led nonprofit tackling classroom hunger with a locally rooted, scalable model. Building on more than a decade of learning by doing, we’re powering a new school feeding industry and sharing our blueprint to scale sustainable, nutritious and affordable school feeding programs across Africa.
Today, we serve over 600,000 learners daily in Kenya, but what we deliver goes beyond the meal. Each plate improves nutrition, fuels learning, and creates jobs that uplift entire communities. We are an experienced, trusted non-profit partner that operates with the excellence of a global business, reinvesting the value we create into local economies.
Over the past decade, F4E has scaled its reach exponentially, serving 160 million cumulative meals since its inception, and growing from just 25 children fed daily in 2012 to over 600,000 learners receiving meals every single day in 2026. With our presence now spanning 13 counties, we’re delivering daily meals to children in 1,650+ public schools and ECD centers. Parents pay for these meals through a mobile money system linked to NFC wristbands, which their children wear and ‘Tap2Eat’ in under 5 seconds to access their meal.
F4E is growing quickly. Our mission is to scale a model that prioritises efficient supply chain management and sustainable sourcing, so we can continue lowering the cost of school meals. We have served over 150,000,000 meals since 2012 and are expanding to reach 1 million learners in Kenya by 2027 and another 2 million across Africa by 2030.
Our ValuesAt Food for Education, our values are guiding principles that provide us with purpose and direction and set the tone for our interactions with all stakeholders:
  • Build with excellence and curiosity - We’re not afraid to try new things and iterate as much as we can to find the best and most efficient way to get results;
  • Be the change you seek - We acknowledge that continuous improvement is a shared responsibility;
  • We do what we say; and say what we do - We embrace an ownership mentality;
  • Ask why; and commit - Share openly and question respectfully, and commit fully. When we understand the why, we are able to work with a purpose.

About the Role
The Knowledge Management Specialist is responsible for ensuring knowledge across the entire organization is available, reliable (up-to-date), and easily accessible to all key staff. To help us achieve this, you will be required to define and roll out an org-wide taxonomy and governance framework, and identify and onboard knowledge champions across each function. The desired end goal is to launch a central knowledge repository that you maintain with support from the knowledge champions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Governance & standards

  • Define and roll out F4E's org-wide document naming convention, folder structure and taxonomy.
  • Define and roll-out F4E’s knowledge governance framework, so departments are monitored against agreed standards rather than left to self-maintain.
  • Set and run a standing review cycle, held termly or quarterly to actively monitor and review departmental adherence to the framework.
2. Knowledge Champion Network
  • Build relationships across all the functions in the organisation.
  • Recruit, brief, and engage a Knowledge Champion in every department.
  • Hold the network to the governance framework standard without formal line authority (this role works through influence and a mandate from the COO, not direct authority)
3. Knowledge Management System Roll-Out & Maintenance
  • Conduct research and work alongside the tech team to roll out the desired knowledge management system.
  • Launch and maintain an intranet that is appropriate to F4E's organisational size, sector and ways of working — serving as the organisation's central knowledge hub.
  • Embed change management principles in the KM system roll-out process to ensure easy adoption, usability and relevance.
4. Analytics & Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor search analytics and feedback to identify gaps in the knowledge base e.g. do the knowledge resources reflect real workflows? Is the knowledge indexed appropriately? etc
  • Track and report knowledge base usage and adoption metrics.
  • Collect feedback from teams and propose improvements to both content and systems.
  • Help organize knowledge-sharing forums or sessions where teams exchange lessons learned and best practices.
Minimum Requirements
  • 5+ years experience owning the end-to-end design, implementation and roll out of a knowledge management system is a must-have.
  • Experience working in large organisations with field staff is a plus.
  • Research capabilities and strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex processes.
  • Familiarity with tools such as SharePoint, Google Sites and Notion, in addition to intranet solutions such as LumApps, WorkVivo, Happeo, etc.
  • Exposure or interest in exploring how we can leverage AI within the KM system.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple tasks.
  • Comfortable partnering with technology teams and excited about using digital tools to improve learning and operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust and collaborate across teams.
  • Proactive, curious, and motivated by a strong sense of ownership.
  • Commitment to Food for Education’s mission and values.

What Success Looks Like
Success in this role is as described below:

  1. The entire organisation has defined and adapted a knowledge management taxonomy.
  2. Each department has appointed a knowledge champion who ensures adherence to the governance framework developed.
  3. Food4Education has one knowledge repository that all team members can log into to find and search key documents.
  4. Once the 3 key goals above are achieved, the specialist can go a step further by ensuring the knowledge stored is user-friendly and relevant to their respective stakeholders.

To achieve this you will work closely with all teams across the organisation, with support from the Tech team (systems support) and Learning Design team (knowledge assets creation support).
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is organized, curious about how to make knowledge accessible to a large organisation, and energized by the chance to integrate people, processes, and technology in ways that empower staff to improve daily operations.
