We have an immediate opening for a Junior Air Quality Engineer, Engineer-in-Training or Scientist to join our team in Dartmouth, NS.

Stantec’s atmospheric group is dedicated to helping our clients manage air quality, climate change issues and noise emissions professionally and proactively. Our professional engineers and scientists provide specialized services to a wide variety of sectors including manufacturing, industry, commercial, transportation, and government. We offer a full suite of services including design and permitting support, monitoring programs, predictive modelling, emission quantification, management and verification, climate change risk and adaptation studies and much more. 

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain emissions inventories, including the preparation and processing of spatial and temporal emissions data for modelling applications
  • Conduct air quality assessments and dispersion modelling for industrial projects using tools such as AERMOD, CALPUFF, or Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) Models
  • Process, analyze, and interpret meteorological, emissions, ambient air quality, and modelling data to support technical assessments
  • Maintain a strong understanding of applicable air quality legislation, standards, guidelines, and modelling methodologies
  • Authors technical air quality, acoustic GHG, climate change-related reports and documents
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals and in business development planning

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written in English) are required.
  • Strong quantitative and computer skills with Microsoft Office software are required.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and in a multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Familiarity with estimation of contaminant emission rates using different methodologies (i.e., emission factors, engineering calculations, engineering judgment, etc.) and air dispersion modelling of stationary and mobile emission sources using modelling programs such as AERMOD and CALPUFF would be an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • For the listed topics considered an asset that an applicant does not have experience in, an interest and willingness to learn is a requirement. 

Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Meteorology, Atmospheric Chemistry, or related Environmental Sciences is required.
A master’s degree in engineering or relevant science would be an asset.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, meteorology, atmospheric chemistry, or related environmental sciences
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Strong quantitative and computer skills
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Interest and willingness to learn unfamiliar listed subject areas
  • Familiarity with contaminant emission-rate estimation methodologies
  • Experience with air dispersion modeling programs such as AERMOD and CALPUFF
  • Master’s degree in engineering or relevant science
