About Climavision

At Climavision, we’re rebuilding climate technology from the ground up and changing the way we see weather. We merge the power of our proprietary, high-resolution weather radar and satellite network with advanced weather prediction modelling and decades of industry expertise to reduce existing coverage gaps and drastically improve forecasting ability. Our revolutionary new approach to and climate solutions is poised to help reduce the economic risks of climate change on companies, governments, and societies alike. We are backed by The Rise Fund, the world’s largest global impact platform committed to achieving measurable, positive social and environmental outcomes alongside competitive financial returns. Climavision is headquartered in Louisville, KY, with research and development operations in Raleigh, NC.

The Work

As a Junior Software Engineer at Climavision, you will work across the full stack — building and operating both the backend services and APIs that move weather data from our observation network and forecast models to the customers and applications that depend on it, and the web interfaces that make that data usable across the company. This role is designed for someone early in their career and will start with well-scoped features and bug fixes inside existing services and interfaces, working closely with senior engineers through code review, and growing towards owning larger pieces of the platform. You’ll be working closely with a team of senior and staff-level engineers who are genuinely invested in developing junior talent — this role is built to grow you quickly, not just fill a seat. We care far more about how you think, how you test, and how clearly you communicate than about the number of years on your résumé.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement well-scoped features, API endpoints, bug fixes, and user-facing interfaces across our backend services and web front end, following the patterns and conventions already established in the codebase.
  • Write automated tests — both fast unit tests and integration tests that exercise real dependencies — and reproduce bugs with a failing test before you fix them.
  • Participate actively in code review, first as an author and over time as a reviewer. Expect thorough, constructive review of your work from your first pull request.
  • Work with relational databases: write queries, model data, and author schema migrations.
  • Add and improve instrumentation — structured logging, metrics, health checks, and traces — so that problems in production are diagnosable rather than mysterious.
  • Use AI coding assistants such as Claude Code and Codex as part of your everyday development loop, and help improve the shared rules, skills, and agent configurations we keep in source control alongside the code.
  • Build and extend the Blazor web interfaces and dashboards that make platform behavior visible and usable across the company.
  • Help operate what you build, working with containers, deployment pipelines, and Kubernetes configuration with support from the team.
  • Write clear pull request descriptions, add comments that explain the reasoning behind your code when helpful, and keep relevant documentation up to date as changes are made.

Qualifications

  • Up to 2 years of professional software engineering experience. Recent graduates, bootcamp graduates, and career changers with strong technical fundamentals are encouraged to apply.
  • A degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience through internships, personal projects, open-source contributions, or work in an adjacent technical discipline.
  • Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language (C#, Java, Python, Go, or C++), with an interest in working primarily in C# and .NET. This is a full-stack role; prior front-end or Blazor experience is not required, but a willingness to learn is.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational database fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with Git and a pull-request-based workflow in GitHub.
  • Interest in working with AI coding tools, including Claude and Codex, which are integrated into the teams day-to-day workflows.
  • Ability to break problems into manageable pieces, asks thoughtful questions, and communicates when you are stuck or need additional context.
  • Strong written communication. As a distributed team, much of our collaboration happens asynchronous and in writing.
  • Curiosity about the systems surrounding your code, including where data comes from, where it goes, and how systems respond when something does not behave as expected.

Nice to have, but not required:

  • Exposure to C# and .NET, particularly ASP.NET Core.
  • Experience building Claude Code extensions or plugins, such as skills, subagents, hooks, slash commands, or MCP servers.
  • Exposure to automated testing using a framework such as xUnit, including integration testing against real dependencies such as Testcontainers.
  • Familiarity with Docker and basic exposure to Kubernetes concepts, such as manifests, logs, and readiness probes.
  • Exposure to a public cloud platform, ideally Azure (Blob Storage, Service Bus, Event Grid).
  • Exposure to message-driven or event-driven systems, such as queues, pub/sub, MQTT, or streams.
  • Familiarity with distributed software systems and concepts such as retries, partial failures, and eventual consistency.
  • Exposure to a component-based web UI framework such as Blazor, React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Exposure to observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
  • Familiarity with Python, particularly for data processing or small services.
  • Exposure to CI/CD concepts and tools, such as GitHub Actions.
  • Experience working in a start-up or other fast-moving environment is a plus.
