About the Role

Join our team behind ReadID, the market leader in mobile identity verification. As a Java Cloud & DevOps Engineer, you will contribute to building, scaling, and maintaining our high-throughput SaaS platform. You will bridge backend software engineering and modern cloud operations, helping deliver continuous improvements across public and sovereign clouds on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or AWS with Kubernetes.

About the Team

You will be joining a multidisciplinary agile team with an informal, open, and positive atmosphere with a culture of mutual help and support. The team is located in the heart of Enschede in a modern workplace offering a comfortable working setup. There is a friendly, social vibe, with activities during and outside of work. A significant part of the team usually works from the office, which helps integration and getting up to speed quickly.

What you will do
  • Backend Engineering: Develop, test, and maintain features for the ReadID SaaS backend with a focus on reliability, performance, and security.

  • Cloud & Containerization: Deploy, configure, and monitor containerized services running on Kubernetes (GKE) and cloud infrastructure.

  • CI/CD & Deployments: Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines to support smooth, automated releases and reliable deployments.

  • Clean Code & Quality Engineering: Write clean, modular, and well-tested code (Unit, Integration tests) adhering to team standards and best practices.

  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate on release testing and validation to ensure seamless interoperability across mobile platforms and international identity documents.

  • DevOps Collaboration: Actively participate in infrastructure automation, observability, troubleshooting, and continuous platform improvements.

  • Agile Teamwork: Work closely with cross-functional team members, participating actively in sprints, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

What we expect
  • Education: BSc or MSc degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • Java Foundation: Solid working experience with server-side Java engineering (e.g., Java 17+, Spring / Spring Boot, or Jakarta EE).

  • Cloud & Container Basics: Practical experience or hands-on exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud environments (GCP or AWS), with an eagerness to deepen your cloud expertise.

  • APIs & Databases: Understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON/XML, and relational databases (such as PostgreSQL or MySQL).

  • Security Awareness: Understanding of core application security principles, secure coding practices, and OWASP fundamentals.

  • Mindset & Drive: A curious, problem-solving mindset with a willingness to learn, ask questions, and take ownership of tasks.

  • Communication: Good professional proficiency in English (both verbal and written).

  • Site Reliability & Support: Take part in periodic 24/7 on-call shifts to support incident management and platform reliability.

  • Location: Located within commuting distance of Enschede (or willing to relocate), comfortable working from the office at least 2 days a week (most colleagues prefer ~4 days).

Nice to Have
  • Exposure to Observability & Logging tools (e.g., ELK Stack, Prometheus, Grafana, Cloud Monitoring).

  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) or GitOps concepts.

  • Basic knowledge of frontend web technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular).

  • Relevant cloud or Kubernetes certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer or CKAD/CKA).

Skills Required
